Minutes of June 18, 2009
Held at Eddy Elementary School
Chair O'Reilly called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
- For the Committee: Steve Jones, Marie Enochty, John O'Reilly, Jennifer Rabold, David

- For the Administration: Michael Gradone, Denise Fronius, Keith Gauley, Hans
Baumhauer
- Others: Town officials, parents, staff, interested citizens
AGENDA CHANGES
- The Eddy School Improvement Plan will be presented at a future meeting.
CITIZENS SPEAK
- Cindy Wood addressed the Committee regarding the grant which supported a workshop
to assist teachers to deal appropriately to disrespectful remarks such as "that's so gay."
The staff was very receptive and she suggested on-going training.
PRIORITY BUSINESS
- Administrators' Reports
Denise Fronius reported that the field day was excellent especially with the Whtiecaps'
participation; students are learning how to speak in public; Military Day was wonderful;
and finally, Superintendent Gradone Day was wonderful.
Keith Gauley and Denise recognized Emily O'Reilly, who is stepping down from BESPIE,
for all of her hard work and support. He reported that final awards will be given on
Tuesday at 9:30; reviewed reading and writing data; next year instrumental music for
grade 4 will be offered; the schedule for next year is a flexible schedule which will make
the most out of what we have.
Mike Gradone thanked Denise and Keith for their part in the Mike Gradone Day.
Authorize Reduction in Force
Mr. Gradone explained what a difficult process this has been. It was moved by Steve
Jones and seconded by Marie Enochty to authorize the reductions in force with deepest
regret. Voted: 4 Aye, 1 Opposed(J. Rabold)
'09 Budget
Supt. Gradone reported that this year's budget was the most fragmented with changes in
expenses, resources,funding and the new accounting software saying that the year may
end with the budget being in the red. He will be talking to Charlie Sumner on how to
balance the budget. Business Manager Baumhauer distributed his memorandum
regarding the '09 budget and reviewed it. He also said he will be attending all of the

upcoming meetings and will be sure that members receive monthly financial reports. He
is meeting with Lisa Souve and Jillian Douglass at Town Hall. The State budget is
coming out soon and it doesn't look good. The Committee may have to look at more
reductions this summer. Mr. Levasseur reminded the Committee that they should
request a reserve fund transfer.
REPORTS AND INFORMATION
Other
Emily O'Reilly thanked Keith Gauley, the two school nurses and teachers for their help
during the time when their son was having health problems; he never got behind thanks
to these staff members.
Cape Cod Collaborative
Marie reported that there is a change in directors and the reorganization of the Board will
be done in September. The Collaborative will play a big role in regionalization.
Regionalization Planning Update
John O'Reilly reported on the meeting he attended on June 8 hosted by Sarah Peake on
regionalization with Lower Cape superintendents, school committee representatives and
selectmen. There is a meeting June 25 with Demographer Peter Francese that is open
to the public and he encouraged anyone who can to attend. Mr. Francese will compare
Maryland, who has strong county ties, to Massachusetts.
- Summer Meetings
The Committee will be meeting on July 6 and August 10 at 5:30 at the Eddy Elementary
School.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was moved by Marie Enochty and seconded by Steve Jones to approve the minutes of
May 26, 2009. Voted unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT
- It was moved, seconded and voted unanimously to adjourn, subject to paying bills, at
p.m.
