Brewster School Committee
Minutes of November 19, 2009
Held at Stony Brook Elementary School
Chair O'Reilly called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
- For the Committee: Steve Jones, John O'Reilly, Jennifer Rabold, David Telman
(Absent: Marie Enochty)
- For the Administration: Gail Briere, Denise Fronius, Keith Gauley, Hans Baumhauer
- Others: Town officials, parents, staff, interested citizens
AGENDA CHANGES
- An Executive Session was added to the agenda.

PRIORITY BUSINESS
Administrators' Reports
Principal Gauley reported that parent-teacher conferences were very well attended; the
Accelerated Learner program will have eight students per grade level; Dave Damon is
retiring after 46 years in education; BESPIE raised $5,000 from the Pasta Dinner &
Auction; the Literary grant was awarded but is $3,000 less that what we asked for; and
attendance has been around 92%.
Principal Fronius reported that their attendance is down; she shared poetry books done
by kindergarten students; congratulated Mrs. Bamachez for receiving financial support
from DonorsChoose.org; attendance was terrific at the parent conferences; reviewed
Tyler LaBonte's orienteering project; the students will be participating in a Kid's Fitness
Challenge; she thanked Gail Briere for her work in developing the professional
development offerings for the district; and thanked BESPIE for funding "Bach to
Beetles". She also distributed a list of unanticipated expenses.
Assistant Superintendent Briere reported on the professional development opportunities
and schedule for November 23, 24 and January 15. The Cape Cod Collaborative will
also offer workshops on January 15.
FY 10 Update
Business Manager Baumhauer reviewed the expense report and explained that it
includes encumbered salaries. He reviewed the budget with the principals and they
agreed on the recommended transfers. The principals and Mr. Baumhauer reviewed the
recommendations with the Committee. After discussion, it was moved by Steve Jones,
seconded by Jennifer Rabold and voted unanimously to approve the transfers as
presented.
FY 11 Budget Planning
Mr. Baumhauer went over the proposed budget format and explained that there will be a
narrative for each line item. There was also discussion regarding enrollment projections.

Secretary Vacancy
There was no action taken.
REPORTS AND INFORMATION
- Cape Cod Collaborative
Jennifer Rabold reported on the last meeting which did not have much to do with the
elementary school level.
- Building Committee Report
Mr. O'Reilly reported that the contracts were not signed due to a question about
reimbursement from MSBA, putting the project on temporary hold. The Inspector
General is questioning the validity of the sale of the Town Hall. Mr. Levasseur said they
are waiting to hear back.
- Transportation Subcommittee Report
Mr. O'Reilly reported that they are looking at the possibility of changing from three tiers
to two which would mean a change in school starting times. Mr. Baumhauer has also
talked with the Collaborative regarding transportation analysis.
- Joint School Committee Meeting
Ms. Briere encouraged the Committee to attend the meeting on December 3 and she
reviewed the items that will be included on the agenda.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was moved by Steve Jones and seconded by David Telman to approve the minutes of
October 75, 2009. Voted unanimously.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
It was moved by Steve Jones and seconded by David Telman to go into executive
session to discuss contract negotiations. The Chair announced that no further business
would be conducted in open session. Roll call vote: David Telman -Aye, Jennifer
Rabold -Aye, Steve Jones -Aye, John O'Reilly -Aye.
RETURN TO OPEN SESSION
- The Committee returned to open session for adjournment.
ADJOURNMENT
- It was moved, seconded and voted unanimously to adjourn, subject to paying bills, at
8:25 p. m.
