A RESOLUTION: APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF A HEAL GRANT APPLICATION
WHEREAS,the Healthy Eating Active Living Campaign(HEAL) is awarding four to six
grants in the amount of$5,000-$9,000 to member communities for the implementation of policies
that make it easier for residents and employees to eat more nutritious foods and be more physically
active; and
WHEREAS, in June, 2014 the Town of Leesburg was formally recognized as a HEAL
Community due to policies implemented that provide opportunities for residents to make healthy
lifestyle choices; and
WHEREAS, there is no fiscal impact for grant submission; and
WHEREAS, should the Town be selected as a recipient of one of the HEAL grants, it is
proposed that the funds be used to create "Get Healthy Leesburg"promotional materials to consist
of a tri-fold handout that includes information on how our residents can utilize resources within
the Town to live a healthy lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, included within the handout could be information on the Town-wide park
system,healthy food options, and walkability opportunities within Town, and in addition to a
display handout, a condensed mailer could be created to be included within utility/tax bill
mailings; and
WHEREAS, grant applications are due June 25, 2015, and the recipients will be notified in
early August, 2015.

A RESOLUTION: APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF A HEAL GRANT APPLICATION
THEREFORE RESOLVED,by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia hereby
approves submission of a HEAL grant application.
PASSED this 12th day of May,2015.
