The Government Services and Finance Committee of Loudoun County has been weighing the option of whether to build a planned expansion of the Loudoun County Courts in downtown Leesburg, or move the entire complex to County-owned property outside of the Town on Sycolin Road. Loudoun County currently has approval for an approximately 60,000 square foot expansion at its location on Church Street (the old jail site). County officials have recently stated that they wish to increase the expansion to approximately 120,000 square feet of new construction over two phases. The Government Services and Finance Committee is expected to make its recommendation to the Board of Supervisors at its meeting of January 7, 2013. The Town Council will be providing its input to the Committee after the December 11 council meeting for consideration. To date, the Town Council of Leesburg has made it clear that they desire the Court system and the expansion remain in downtown Leesburg. Contact: Scott E.
