A RESOLUTION: APPROVAL OF SCULPTURE ART FOR THE RAFLO PARK
ARTSPARKS PROJECT FOR JUNE 2016 - JUNE 2018
WHEREAS,the Leesburg Town Council supports the Commission on Public Art,
established in 2006 (COPA Article XII Section 2-100 of the Leesburg Town Code); and
WHEREAS,the work of the Commission on Public Art encourages and supports art to
enhance Leesburg's identity as a community and to demonstrate that Leesburg values art and
creativity within the community; and
WHEREAS, a sculpture park was created in Raflo Park as a public/private partnership with
private entities installing a path and five concrete sculpture pedestals; and
WHEREAS,the Commission on Public Art issued a call for artists to provide sculpture art
for the ArtsPARKs project at Raflo Park; and
WHEREAS, an appointed art advisory panel chose five sculptures for display; and
WHEREAS,the Commission on Public Art agrees with the panel's recommendations; and
WHEREAS,the Town Council must endorse all art displayed on public property.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia hereby
endorses sculptures entitled Birdhouse#6 by Michael Clay, Sproutman and Unity by Brian Kirk,
and The Artist and Trail Blazer by Peter Wood for display at Raflo Park from June 2016 through
June 2018.
