A RESOLUTION: EXTENDING THE DUE DATE FOR PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX
PAYMENTS FROM MAY 5, 2016 TO MAY 13, 2016
WHEREAS, Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended, § 58.1-3916 permits local governing
bodies to extend, for a reasonable length of time the payment of certain local taxes, including
personal property taxes, not to exceed 90 days, whenever good cause exists; and
WHEREAS, Loudoun County assesses personal property within the Town and then
forwards these assessments and vehicle information to the Town to levy the tax and mail bills to
taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, as a result of Loudoun County's recent computer software conversion and the
Town's outside financial system vendor's schedule, the County forwarded personal property
assessments to the Town later than usual and the Town's vendor was unable to generate personal
property tax bills more than 4 weeks before the taxes were due on May 5th; and
WHEREAS, in order to allow taxpayers the customary four(4) weeks to pay personal
property taxes, an extension of one week is necessary; and
WHEREAS, these circumstances are considered good cause to extend the time for the
payment of personal property taxes.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia extends the
due date for the payment of personal property taxes from May 5, 2016, to May 13, 2016.
