Selma Jane Gassman Gearhardt
On the bitter cold morning of Jan. 19, 2013 Selma Jane Gassman Gearhardt continued on her journey
to meet her Savior Jesus Christ, her cousin Carrie Gifford, grandmothers Marie Gassman and Laurette
Weller, and her puppy Norman.
WhaA celebration of Selma's life will be held on Monday, Jan. 28, at noon at the McCall
Community Congregational Church. Pastor Char Havlicak will officiate.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Heikkila
Funeral Chapel in McCall.
Selma's life began in Provo, Utah, March 24, 1963. She moved with her parents, Joy Weller and
Richard Gassman, to Seattle, Wash., in 1964. Her father Rich completed his doctorate of dentistry in
1968. During her early years with her parents Selma developed a life long love of learning.
Selma would graduate with a doctorate of pharmacy degree from Idaho State University after
completing her undergraduate work at the University of California in San Diego.
Selma grew up in McCall. She loved her large McCall family with Shawn and Joy Miller.
As the family grew, Selma grew with the same capacity to love and care for her brothers Jim (Valle),
Jeremy, and Carl (Debbie) and sisters Laurie (Joel), Jalah, Leggette (Ray), and DaNita.
In San Diego was her other family, Richard and Vi Gassman and sister Susie (Jason).
At the time of her passing, Selma had 22 nieces and nephews. Each one made a significant difference
to her.
Selma graduated from McCall - Donnelly High School in 1981. During her high school years she was an
outstanding student, athlete, and musician.
She often said the happiest time of her life was working with Karla Miller and Cynthia Kimball at
Lardo's. Selma's friendship with Dawn Everhart would continue through every intersection in life. Before
graduating high school, Selma earned enough money to buy her first car.
Selma enjoyed picking huckleberries, swimming in the Payette Lake, camping and searching for new
hot springs.
While in San Diego, Selma met the love of her life, Robert Gearhardt. They were married July 5, 1986.
On July 4 of that same year, it snowed hard enough to prevent the annual McCall fireworks display.
Therefore on July 5 at the conclusion of their wedding reception on the lake, the fireworks were
displayed.
Selma and Robert have three children, Sierra Dawn, Miles, and Grace. in 2011 the Gearhardt s first
grandchild, James Liam, was bom.
It's impossible to describe the love Selma felt for James. The Gearhardts made Boise their home for
the past 12 years. The family is joined by their yellow labs, Abbey and Emma.
Selma's career in pharmacy included hospital service, developing McCalrs Rite Aid pharmacy, and
working for the State of Idaho over the Medicaid pharmacy program.
She felt fortunate to have a pharmacy career that extended to different avenues of service.
Selma will be remembered for her countless compassionate acts for her family and community.
In November 2012 she made a bassinet for a young McCall mother whose baby had health difficulties.
She never met the family but cried at the chill's death as if it were her own.
When her grandmother Weller had stroke in 1989, Selma and Robert moved to Pocatello to take care
of her until she passed in 1991.
Selma would often say it gave her a greater chance to be close to her cousins, Paul, David, Merrill
Pugmire, and Lynn Weller and their spouses. She tried to do the same as her Aunt Mary Carolyn Stoy
and never forget a Christmas gift for everyone.
Nicknamed "Mrs. Field's' because her cookies were phenomenal, Selma's cookies were the best!
Her family remains grateful to Selma for the work she did to try to regain her physical and mental
health. The love from her heart extended to everyone she met. She could not fathom how anyone could
treat someone unkindly. She will continue to nurture us with the precious memories she left.
Whatever is meaningful to you to express your grief will be meaningful to the family.
A memorial gift In honor of Selma Gearhardt can be sent to the McCall Community Congregational
Church, PO Box 762, McCall, ID 83638. Please make a notation, " Gearhardt Family.'

Dear Grandma
"On your day
The Autumn sun
smiled so brightly
While far above, light,
cream - colored strokes of clouds
Graced a perfect
sky -blue canvas.
It was the most beautiful of days.
The breeze blew happily
While leaves sparkled
and danced in deliqht.
It was you.
You came to share with us
Your grace and goodness
Your wisdom and your love.
Thank you for
the delight you spread
With stories, songs,
smiles and laughter
Treats and sweets
and gifts of fun.
We became better
children and grandchildren
Better people ... because of you.
We learned how
to love and share
And experienced family
na kaaed so perfectly
In the world you offered us.
And it was a very good world,
Grandma.
We thank you so dearly
for all that you were
And are to all of us.
On your day
The Autumn sun
smiled so brightly
And we smiled back ...
because of you."

Death: Dorothy Mae Gastrin
Dorothy Mae Gastrin, 88 went to be with her Heavenly Father Jan. 14, 2017.
Born in Twin Falls to Wayne and Elsie Whitney, she moved home just west of Lake Fork one
month later, where her father raised seed potatoes.
1I •.
She lived there through her sophomore year and moved to Meadows for her junior /senior
year. She graduated in May 1945 and went to Kansas in June to marry Francis Gastrin.
When World War II was over he was discharged from the Army and they moved back to
Long Valley.
Together they started the Long Valley Farm Service and later built and ran the Long Valley Motel. She
was really relieved to sell both and be "retired."
Then Francis died suddenly after 35 years of marriage. She took back the bankrupt business and
started building it back, making her fuel deliveries before and after the store was open.
She was busy in the community. To name a few, she served on the Donnelly City Council and then
was the mayor. She helped in building the park (twice) and getting the tennis courts.
She was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Donnelly Bible Church within a couple of
years of its inception until now. She was on the North Lake Recreational Sewer and Water District Board
from its inception in 1994 until now.
She and Francis were instrumental in starting the Shiloh Bible Camp. They also gave road easements
so the SISCRA Park could be built.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Linda Beth (George) Duncan of Lake Fork and their children Adam
Duncan of Boise, Lee (Brooke) Duncan of Lake Fork, John Duncan of Lake Fork and Ellen (Bob)
Tamminga of Liberty, Missouri; Elsie Elena (Rick) Krause of Donnelly and their children Janet (Eric)

City, Ore.; Bruce Wayne (Barb) Gastrin of Eagle and their children Michele (Scott) Krahn of Star and
Tyler Gestrin of Boise; 14 great- grandchildren; her brother George Whitney of Yuma, Ariz., and
numerous nephews and a niece.

Glenn Hollis Gilbert
My dear husband, Glenn Hollis Gilbert, 65, of Donnelly, passed away on Sept. 9, 2015 at home of
natural causes.
IM There will be a memorial celebration of his life at the church in Roseberry at 1 p.m. on
Friday, Sept. 18, 2015. Please bring a dish or drink and a story to share.
41 Glenn was born Jan. 14, 1950 in Takoma Park, Md. He was a singular, one -of -a -kind
individual whose main goal always was "to do right" He was a much loved husband, father
and grandpa who never took his family for granted, but was thankful for them every day. He
was a loyal friend.
As a husband, Glenn was a true romantic. He never brought me a bouquet of flowers or a box of
candy, but he'd pluck a wild flower to show and made sure I knew he loved me every day by a look or a
touch or by his simple attentiveness to me. His kindness was unexcelled. We remained sweethearts and
actively "in love" for 42 years.
Glenn was a "news junkie; always looking behind the reported story for the `truth ". He felt the pain of
those mistreated and suffering, his heart never becoming hardened.
We met in the fall of 1973 at the employee "chow hall" at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We
were married a month later, on Oct 10, spent our wedding night hiking down the Bright Angel Trail by the
light of the full moon and we honeymooned at the bottom of the Canyon.
In 1975, our son Abe was born in Washington, D.C., and we soon after set up housekeeping on 20
acres in West Virginia, living in a 20 foot tip! that Glenn sewed on his mom's sewing machine. After a
short return to Arizona, we continued on to McCall, just to see the beautiful mountains and many lakes
that we'd seen pictures of.
While Glenn trapped and hunted, the family lived in a sheepherder's tent on the South Fork. Going to
the nearest town (Yellow Pine) for supplies was a 46 mile round -trip on foot. Back in McCall, Glenn
worked as a cook, and he also worked for Brown and Son Construction. Glenn and 1 also did some
video work.
In 1983, we moved to Donnelly, at which time he became serious about playing the guitar. I learned to
play the bass and after awhile we began to book gigs. When our son was about 15 he joined us onstage
on keyboard. We were known at that time as Hurricane.
He also gigged with the band Cross Country, playing the bass, as well as with other bands. He
produced an album of our original music, "Soggy Cookies" as Sir Real and LaWeeze.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Hollis and Sydney Gilbert, his sister Maureen Gilbert and
his wonderful Grandma Pearl Gilbert; also by his great friends Steve Brown, Russell Watts, Jenoma
Henry and Mike Smith. He'll be joining them and other friends lost along the way.
He leaves behind his wife Louise, his son Abe (Jennifer) and his grandsons Jonus and Liam.
Sleep my darling, and if the story is true, which I have the hope that it is, we will awaken together with
glorified bodies in a world without pain and never again be parted.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the McCall Folklore Society, Box 2275, McCall,
ID 83638.

Fred C. Gleason
Fred C. Gleason Jr, died peacefully at home on Jan. 10, 2013, after a gallant effort to recover from
complications derived from Legionnaire's disease.
Private services are planned for Fred in the spring, when his ashes will be buried next to
®; those of his late wife, Debbie, in Cascade.
±f
Fred was bom May 5, 1931, in Oakland, and spent his youth in Fresno, Calif. He later
relocated to Southern Caldomia to start a construction company and raise his family.
Fred brought his creative and stubborn, never - give -up, way of Ilfe to expand and grow his
company to service commercial construction from Los Angeles to San Diego, Calif.
In 1979, Fred and his wife Debbie retired to Cascade to grow a garden, start a business, and enjoy the
beauty and activities of Valley County. Fred's passion was to find a mountain stream and fish from it,
hopping rocks to find that perfect pool. He loved the area and enjoyed his life here.
But Fred's strong drive, confidence and entrepreneurial spirit called out to him to do more to contribute
to Valley County, and that's when he took on the resurrection of Cascade's Roxy Theatre, which had
fallen to time and deterioration.
He was a builder and a creator who derived great pleasure in bringing joy to all who would come to be
entertained there for many years,
Fred, with Debbie by his side, poured his heart into bringing this old dilapidated building back to life,
and when that project was complete they wend on to develop McCall's Evergreen Theatre.
They operated both until Debbie was diagnosed with cancer in 1989, at which time they sold both
theatres and Fred devoted himself to Debbie's care and comfort. Debbie died in 1991.
As the years passed, Fred found new partnership with Jackie Lee, of Cascade, and together they
developed Cascade Vacation Rentals. He enjoyed working with his hands and found no task too difficult
to solve in this growing business.
He loved working with the visitors coming to Valley County to enjoy the same things he loved about d
here. During his life with Jackie he also became a close guardian to Jackie's nine - year -old
granddaughter, Jamie.
He found himself helping her with her homework, enjoying school concerts, and watching this little girl
grow. He was happy to be part of her life, and last summer he helped her start a greenhouse and taught
her how to grow a garden.
It's now with great sadness that we must all say goodbye to this most remarkable man, father,
grandfather and partner and friend. We give thanks to all he gave and for our being part of his life.
Fred was a private man who hated burdening anyone, including his family, and who found it difficult to
reach out or express himself and his own needs, so many didn't know how much he struggled in recent
years.
Although sometimes detached, Fred never lost his concern for others, and loved his children and
grandchildren more than they can ever know, and he was especially proud of their personal
accomplishments.
With a smile on his face, and eyes gleaming, he was always anxious to pass on news about their lives.
Fred is survived by his three children, Mike, Dave and Lindell; his daughters -in -law, Lisa and Laurie;
his son -in -law, Bob; his four grandchildren, Lauren, Mary, Adam and Spencer; his six great - grandsons,
Austin, Brennan, Liam, Nolan, Jackson and Aaron; his brother, Timothy; his partner in love and
friendship, Jackie; and his special friend Jamie.

Annamary Godfrey
Annamary Beryl Seaman Godfrey, 93, formerly of Cascade, died on Oct. 13, 2011.
Services were held at the LDS Church Northview chapel in Boise on Monday,
Oct. 17, 2011, and interment followed at Cloverdale Cemetery.
.i She was born April 8, 1918, in Deer River, Minn., the second of four children of
' Morton and Kate Seaman. They moved to Idaho when Annamary was two months
t old to help found the logging camp at Cabarton near Cascade.
C The box car at the logging camp where the family lived became the gathering place for the community
to dance, play music and visit. Annamary learned from her mother and grandmother to play host to a
house full of people, a talent that she enjoyed her entire life.
The family moved to Cascade in 1922. She had a life filled with skiing, barn dances, and music. She
was an artist and reporter for the school newspaper.
During her senior year in high school she met a young man from Emmett, Adrian Godfrey, who was
invited to the senior prom by her date. All it took was one waltz with Adrian to begin a lifetime romance.
Annamary graduated as valedictorian of the Cascade High School class of 1936.
During high school she worked summers in lookouts as a fire spotter. After graduation she worked in
the Forest Service district office in Cascade.
In 1938 Annamary moved to Emmett to work in the county land bank office. She and Adrian continued
their romance and were married on Aug. 28, 1939. In 1940 they moved to Ogden, Utah.
The first of five daughters, Judy, was born that summer. Adrian worked in a drug store and the family
saved to start a toy business.
They were joined by Adrian's brothers and Annamary and her four sisters -in -law bonded for life. The
family expanded with a second daughter, Gerri, in 1942.
Adrian was drafted to fight in World War II shortly after and Annamary and the girls moved to Cascade
to live with her family while Adrian served in Europe.
While there, Annamary worked at the department store and her grandmother stayed home to watch
the girls.
News about the war was hard to come by in Cascade. Newsreels before the Saturday matinee and
weekly radiocasts from Chicago kept the family informed. Adrian returned safely in 1946 and they
Another daughter, Katie, arrived in 1948 and they remodeled a small house in Boise's east end.
Because of Annamary's love for hosting that house became the meeting place for many friends and
extended family which had followed Adrian and Annamary to Boise. Annamary's pies and cinnamon rolls
cooked on the wood stove were famous.
Adrian went to work for Westcraft Woodworking and they made a new circle of friends. A monthly card
club begun then lasted over 30 years.
The Godfreys enjoyed dancing at the Elks and with a local dance club. Two more daughters, Margi
and Elaine, were born.
In 1959 the family moved to Denver for a new job. Annamary joined in many choral and theater
productions and helped all of her daughters participate in music and dance.
The family moved back to Boise and Annamary attended business school and she served in a calling
as church librarian over the next two decades.
Annamary volunteered for many charities and she and Adrian served at the Boise LDS Temple after it
was built.
Not surprising) , the family home again became the place to meet. The extended family now included
many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. You could always count on being asked to stay and eat
when you visited.
In retirement Adrian and Annamary enjoyed the fruits of the many friendships and close family ties
they had established. She finally got to fully enjoy her love of travel with trips to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico,
Canada and many U.S. locations.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Adrian; her parents and siblings, her oldest
daughter, Judy Erickson Ihli; a granddaughter, Annette Ahrens; and a great - granddaughter, Tatum
Sykes Quist.
She is survived by four of her daughters, Gerri Kawczynski, Katie (and Gene) Watkins, Margi (and
John) Farmer and Elaine (and Brett) Clegg; and 27 grandchildren, their spouses and numerous step -
grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The anchor and hospitality she provided to so many will be sorely missed.
