Members present: Brian Ladley, Robert Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann. Members not present: Christine Glasheen and Jean Sears. Members acknowledged acceptance of December 18, 2009 meeting minutes. Committee members discussed several items: • Annual write-up for Brewster's 2009 town report. • The need to publicize the existence and activities of the ACAC and to seek new members. • Publicize availability of CART and large print warrants for the next town meeting. • The committee's web site. Include all information on the web site which informs the public of accessibility services the town offers, such as CART at town meetings. Continue to develop this web site as a source of information on accessibility. • ADA Guide to Small Towns was provided to our committee by CORD. It was agreed that everyone on our committee should read it. • Visit to Latham School on January 27, 2010. Brian Ladley and the Steinmanns will meet with the Executive Director of Latham School upon their request to discuss accessibility issues at the school. Answers from CORD • A question had arisen re large print town warrants. The town has to provide upon request any public material in the requested accessible format or a reasonable substitute. • Another question regarded the number of handicap units in a public development. Handicap units usually are 5% of the total number of units. When that accessible unit number results in one half of a percent, say 2.5 units, the developer should round up; otherwise, the developer is not meeting his minimum obligation of 5% accessible units. Other Business • A draft of the final report of Brewster's recreational land sites and ocean beaches was handed out. Committee members were asked to read and note comments. This report will be the main topic for discussion at our next meeting on Feb. 19, 2010. • Discussion of the make-up of our committee. The Chair will check to see who is to be the town's elected or appointed official required to be a member of our committee. • Discussion regarding changing the day of our meeting from Friday. The committee Chair will look into this. • The Chair asked if the members would like to receive emails sent to her re accessibility issues. These include items from the Sight Loss Center, CORD, Eastham's PACE Meeting Minutes, and the like. Those present thought it was a good idea. The meeting adjourned at 2:45pm. Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann. m ,_; :~ ,~, m i~ r~ '~ r... .c:. r., `-' .~. r- m i~
