February 19, 2010
The meeting began at 2:05 pm.
Members present: Christine Glasheen, Jean Sears, Bob Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann.
Members absent: Brian Ladley.
Members acknowledged acceptance of January 15, 2010 meeting minutes.
Denise Rego, the Director for the Council on Aging for Brewster is the newest member of our
committee. She will be sworn in shortly. Denise represents the "town-appointed or elected"
member required by law to be on our committee.
The Chair handed out a "TTY" info sheet that came from the telephone company
At the request of the Latham Center herein Brewster, Brian Ladley and Maureen Steinmann
volunteered to be on Latham's Accessibility Advisory Committee along with Ann McManus,
Executive Director of the Latham Centers, two Latham staff members, and Jacqueline
Courchesne, the Director of the Brewster Housing Authority. The committee toured the campus
and offered suggestions as to how accessibility for all could be improved. Ann McManus, will
contact our committee at a later date to review any and all proposals regarding improving
accessibility.
The Chair will forward emails and information she receives from others regarding accessibility
issues. We all felt that we can learn a lot from other people involved with disability issues.
The committee discussed changing its meeting day from Friday. Nothing has been decided as
yet.
The Chair encouraged members to read the "ADA Guide for Small Towns" and the "ADA Guide
for Small Business", if they had not already done so.
The members present discussed the final draft of the "Recreation Sites Review". Brian Ladley
will review the accessibility of the Captain's Golf Course when it opens. Otherwise, the Review
was considered finished. The last remaining part deals with the accessibility of Brewster's ponds.
Our next meeting will be on Friday, March 19, 2010
