Committee business noted: • Special envelopes were given to Denise which contain a 2010 beach wheelchair survey sheet and a listing of Brewster's accessible recreational sites. Denise will see that these envelopes are given out to anyone borrowing a beach wheelchair. The purpose is to get feedback from the beach wheelchair users. • There is now an accessible portable bathroom facility at Linnell Landing. This was recommended by the committee in their "Recreational Sites Review". • The kayak rack at Long Pond was moved back a few feet to allow more space for a wheelchair to get by. • The DPW has informed us that they have ordered replacement handicap signs as we recommended to replace the existing outside sign at Town Hall. • CORD is hosting a picnic to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ADA. It will be on Saturday, July 24, at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich, llam to 3pm. • The Chair forwarded all the web site information for our committee to Kathy Lambert, Brewster•`s computer technician. She has set up our web site and also made it possible for the "Accessible Beaches and Recreational Sites in Brewster" sheet to be easily downloaded. These sheets were also dropped off at the Visitors Center at the Town Hall. • The committee hopes to update the Cape Cod Disability Access Directory by having its members visit the appropriate businesses in Brewster and assess their accessibility. Christine will contact Town Hall re getting the names of businesses in Brewster. The Chair will compose an accessibility check list to be used for this purpose. • Christine and her husband, George, attended the Disability Policy Consortium, held yesterday in Falmouth. Basically, this is a publicly funded advocacy group involved especially in the political process, promoting equal opportunity for all individuals with disabilities. Christine distributed information re DPC as well as a brochure re emergency preparedness. Their website is www.dpcma.or~. • The committee reviewed the pond data sheets and there were a few changes noted. Maureen will email everyone a final copy and then submit it to the town. This will complete our survey and recommendations to the town re accessibility. • Our next step is to prioritize our projects and check into funding issues, which is why our committee asked Elizabeth Taylor of the Community Preservation Committee to come and speak with us about funding/granting issues. Elizabeth explained that the best source is the Cape Coa Foundation, a consortium of charities serving the various needs of Cape Codders. This information can be fc~t~nd at the Cape Cod Community College library in Hyannis or possibly on their website: www.canecodfoundation.org . Another source of funding can be found in Community Preservation funds, under two classifications-- recreation and/or historical sites. These funds come from a percentage of a special tax on local real estate transactions, along with some matching funds from the state. Applications for CPA funds are found at Town Hall and should be filled in as completely as possible when seeking funding. Applications should be submitted by July 1St or December 1St for review. ~_. ~. r:r„„~~ Meeting adjourned at 3:30pmr..~ Nea~~meeting Oct. 2010.
