Committee Business Reviewed: • Update on Blacksmith Shop at Drummer Boy. Building Inspector, Victor Staley notified the Brewster Historical Society that they are not to have any more public events until the ramp to the blacksmith shop is rebuilt and inspected. • The committee approved a letter to the selectmen and town manager stating that it is not safe nor healthy for unleashed dogs to be allowed at Drummer Boy Park. The committee also reiterated that Drummer Boy Park should be made accessible to all. As it is now, the park is considered inaccessible. • CORD's meeting Sept. 30th re accessible recreation. The Chair suggested promoting the use of buses with wheelchair lifts on the seniors trips arranged by the Councils on Aging so that these trips would be accessible to all. The Chair also forwarded another question re what does a person who uses an electric wheelchair do in the event they have car trouble and have to be towed, especially at night. This question arose from a. recent personal experience. • Jeff Dougan from the MA Office on Disability will be at oua~ November 19th meeting. Possible subject matters will be discussed at our next meeting. • Brian asked if anything had been done about making the Visitors Center at Nickerson State Park accessible. The Chair said she had not yet spoken with Superintendent Peterson, but would follow up on it. • Denise and Brian completed their restaurants review. Letters will be sent to those restaurants noted to be fully accessible: Agro Dolce, Ardeo's, Bayside Seafood and Market, Dunkin Donuts, Galley Grill at Captains Golf Course, JT's Seafood and Northside Restaurant. El Guapo's Taqueria is fully accessible but just needs a designated handicap space. The Chair will write a separate note to them. Nothing else will be done re the restaurants until next spring. The committee hopes to have a list of accessible restaurants available at the Brewster Visitors Center for next summer. • Denise gave the Chair the list of beach wheelchairs users for this past summer. • The Chair joined by Brian Ladley will meet soon with Tom Thatcher to see what can be done to make Town Hall ADA compliant. The main problem is the counters in the various departments -they are too high and are not accessible to users of wheelchairs. Brian will also check into what the Selectmen's Meeting Room needs to assist those with impaired hearing. The Chair passed out info sheets on "hearing loops". • Grist Mill. The Chair reported that Dana Condit of the MiIE Sites Committee would like to join forces to apply for CPC funds to extend the present ac•~essible brick walkway and possibly have a sign done in braille. He will be in touch. • Christine will check into platform/walkway materials for our accessible beach projects. The Steinmanns saw a new type of accessible walkway in Eastham, manufactured by Super Deck Systems www.superdecksystems com. Christine is checking into other material options. • Meeting times will remain the same as before: 2pm at COA on 3rd Friday of the month. • Meeting ended at 3pm.
