HomeMy Public PortalAboutAll Citizens Access -- 2010-11-19 Minutes ALL CITIZENS ACCESS COMMITTEE -- Meeting Minutes for November 19, 2010 Members present: Denise Rego,Jean Sears, Robert Steinmann and Maureen Steinmann Members absent: Christine Glasheen and Brian Ladley Accepted meeting minutes for meetings held October 15, 2010 and October 27, 2010. There were a few items mentioned by the Chair: A letter to El Guapo's Taqueria was sent thanking them for designating and installing proper signage for a handicap parking space in their parking area. Brewster's Town Clerk, Colette Williams, did contact the Chair regarding the special accessibility attachments that can be used with the town's Assistive Voting Machine. The information was emailed to committee members. Committee Website Improvements: Kathy Lambert has installed software that allows the font size to be changed by the user on the town's general website; however, to enlarge the print of the committee's meeting minutes, one has to do it within the adobe download of the minutes. Also, Kathy is arranging the Committee's meeting minutes by dates, which should make it easier for everyone to access. The committee agreed that it was a good idea for the Chair to send a letter to the Cape Codder thanking the Town Manager, the Selectmen, and Mr. Dana Condit for funding the extension of an accessible pathway at the Grist Mill. Denise mentioned that the Friends of the Brewster Elders are thinking of purchasing a beach wheelchair for the town. Denise showed us literature on one that folds up for easier transport. This will be discussed more at our next meeting. Jeff Dougan,Assistant Director for Community Service at the MA Office on Disability was today's guest. He spoke on a variety of issues and distributed corresponding literature re the Massachusetts Office on Disability, municipal disability commissions,ADA Title II changes, handicap parking- House Bill #1965, the 2011 Community Access Monitor programs (CAM), and tax incentives available for businesses making accessibility improvements. He also distributed the updated 2010 booklets entitled "Disability Rights Laws in Massachusetts". Jeff also responded to a couple of our committee's questions: 1) How best to proceed with trying to get Superintendent Petersen at Nickerson State Park to modify the Visitors' Center so it is handicap accessible. Jeff said if Mr. Petersen continues to avoid making the Visitors' Center wheelchair accessible, he will assist us, upon our request, in making a complaint to the State Inspector's office. 2) There are two handicap entrances to the Brewster Ladies Library. Would it be acceptable to have the main accessible entrance on the lower level closed after 5pm during the winter months? As there is the second accessible entrance on thr upper level which does have handicap parking albeit not as good as the handicap parking on the lower level, this one accessible entrance would be considered sufficient. Meeting adjourned at 3:30pm. Next meeting will be Jan 21, 2011,2pm at the COA Respectfully submitted, Maureen Steinmann. 1.:...I .✓ 1
