January 12, 2010
Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m.
Present: Lisa Vitale, Lisa Souve, Don Poole and, Charles Sumner. Also attending
were John O'Reilly, Brewster Elementary School Committee, Hans Baumhauer,
Nauset Regional School District Business Manager and Barry Schofield, Head
Custodian of Brewster Elementary Schools.
With plans for the Eddy School still unknown, Mr. Baumhauer said they have no
idea how to proceed with their capital plan. Regarding Stony Brook School,
everything in FY 2009 has been completed. He started with the Lavatory Faucet
replacement in 2010. Selectmen Levasseur suggested automatic shutoff fixtures.
Ms. Souve asked about the push kind that shuts off after a few seconds. Mr.
Schofield said they are problems to repair and when the water is turned back on,
the loosened sediment is pushed into crevices and cause even more problems.
He also said the best time to do a project like this is during summer or week long
school breaks because the water must be shut off. They do have three bids that
must be reviewed.
Mr. Baumhauer then proceeded to go through the plan quickly and touched on
various items. The cafeteria floor keeps getting pushed out, and the gym floor is
still in good condition. Regarding the gutter replacement/repair, it is leaking due
to being pitched improperly. The water is not coming inside, but it is running
down the face of the building. He feels there will be a need for replacing some
of it.
The gymnasium water fountain will have to be replaced, and a new one installed
at the other end of the gym.
As far as window screen replacements go, both schools will need this done and
Mr. Schofield thinks the $10,000 will cover both schools.
While some items may be pushed back, the tractor should not be. It is 25 years
old and essential for plowing and should be replaced.
The Central Clock System repair should be done and Mr. O'Brien asked Mr.
Schofield if he was getting quotes for the repair, the answer was yes.
Mr. Baumhauer then reviewed the Middle School Plan starting with the
combination slate and rubber roof which is listed under 2011, and then went on
to speak about the areas at the schoo! that are still carpeted but which should be
replaced with tile, hopefully in 2010.
There are windows that still have ropes and pulleys, which should be replaced.
The main door to the school can be accessed just by pushing it open. There is
no monitoring or security whatsoever and this must be addressed.
He then quickly reviewed the Regional High School Plan and commented on how
they would like to focus more on repairing then replacing. He turned to #10,
replacing carpet and said the auditorium and the library have been done but
there still are areas that need to be completed.
Two Labs, #16 ,have been done but there is one more to be done, hopefully in
2010.
#18, the parking lot resurfacing must be addressed, and #21 the courtyard in in
bad shape. Everything "heaves" in the winter.
#30, backfilling and paving in the front driveway is badly in need of being done
and is set for 2010.
The Specs are ready for the boiler project #33, and will be done shortly.
The Central Office move to the Middle School was mentioned and questioned.
The reasons for doing this is strictly to save the Region money.
The Committee then turned to approving minutes, and the December 27, 2009
minutes were approved. The minutes of January 7, 2010 were approved after
one amendment.
The motion to adjourn was made by Don Poole and seconded by Mr. Sumner.
The meeting was then adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
