HomeMy Public PortalAboutCapital Planning Committee -- 2010-12-15 Minutes Capital Plan Meeting December 15, 2010 Minutes Present were Don Poole, Jim Vachon, Lisa Souve, Charles Sumner, Paul Anderson, Water Department Superintendent and Police Chief Richard Koch. Paul Anderson has just completed his first year of service in Brewster and has had an opportunity to reformulate the capital needs of the department. Jim Vachon asked Paul about the number of departmental vehicles as well as their replacement needs. Paul indicated that there 9 vehicles and he is recommending the replacing one unit. Vehicles no. 9 and 10 are in the toughest shape. The mileage on each, starting with #6 is 59,000, #7 is 86,000, #8 is 51,000, #9 is 88,000, #10 is 108,000, #11 is 36,000, #12 is 16,000, #13 is 82,000 and #14 is 50,000. They are trying to maintain the vehicles in-house as best as they can. Clearly the most significant request is item no. 31 (Well no. 6 Construction) and item no. 55 (Transmission Main Black Duck Cartway) both scheduled for FY2012. The town currently has three wells off Freemans Way and one well in the Punkhorn Parklands. Well no. 6 will allow for the construction of a second well in the Punkhorn Parklands. This well is being constructed to provide water during peak demands. In addition the location of this well will diversify our water production capabilities in the case of a catastrophic event. The related water-main project will allow for the hydraulic connection of the two Punkhorn wells to the Slough Road area. Item no. 58 should be added to the plan to allow land acquisition work in areas associated with zone II protection for public water supplies. Any proposals in this category will most likely be shared acquisition concepts with the Community Preservation Committee. The Police Chief, Richard Koch, then spoke about needing to update their radios since the y purchased new recording equipment. The Fire and Police Chiefs all up and down the Cape are meeting regularly on accomplishing this for their Towns. The radio frequency must be changed and 24 phones need to be updated also. The cost cannot really be predicted because things change so quickly, but approximately $6,000. The Security Camera/DVR replacements are definitely necessary in areas that do not have them at this time. Jim Vachon then made the motion to adjourn; Charlie Sumner seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. . q.......0_
