Proclamation
May 16, 2016
WHEREAS, Grace Turek was born in Michigan, on May 16, 1916; and
WHEREAS, Grace Turek at the age of 3 years moved to Turkey until the age of 6 when
she moved back to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Grace Turek graduated from High School in Morning Sun, Iowa where she
was part of the Rainbow Girls Quartet; and
WHEREAS, Grace Turek Graduated from the Geneva College in Beaver Falls,
Pennsylvania with a degree in elementary education; and
WHEREAS, while in College, Grace Turek was the President of the Women's Association
and had the honor of meeting and introducing Amelia Earhart as the keynote speaker for an
assembly at the college ; and
WHEREAS, Grace Turek met her husband, Charles Turek, while in college and their
wedding was officiated by Grace's minister brother in 1940; and
WHEREAS, after they were married Grace and Charles moved to Buffalo, New York
where Charles worked for Bell Aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Grace and Charles had three children, Charles Bruce, Shirley Karen, and
William Allen; and
WHEREAS, after Charles retired he and Grace moved to a retirement community in
Williamsville, New York where Grace lived for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, during their retirement, Grace and Charles traveled for many years; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 95, Grace Turek moved to McCall, Idaho to be closer to her
Daughter; and
WHEREAS, when Grace moved to McCall she traveled by train all the way from New
York to Washington State; and
WHEREAS, Grace Turek currently enjoys spending time with her daughter and son in-
law and enjoys attending the McCall Community Church.
TO CELEBRATE the 100th birthday of Grace Turek.
NOW, THEREFORE, the McCall City Council and 1, Jackie J. Aymon, Mayor of the City of
McCall, Valley County, do hereby proclaim: May 16, 2016, to be a very special celebration of
Grace Turek's 100th birthday in the City of McCall, Valley County, State of Idaho.
