Wildfire Community Preparedness Day 2016
Proclamation
WHEREAS,the City of McCall has a wildfire risk; and
WHEREAS, the area surrounding McCall has a history of wildfires, in 2007 the forest fire
season has shattered previous record ye.t.i a for acreage burned and money spent; and
WHEREAS, areas surrounding McCall face particularly high-risk due to high development rates
coupled with dense vegetation; and
WHEREAS, there were 125 grant awards nationally for Firewise Mitigation, and McCall r;
received 2 of those grants; tti ed
WHEREAS, McCall has established Woody Debris Program that has resulted in a 70%reduction.

WHEREAS, in 2015 McCall became the first Firewise Community in Valley County; and
WHEREAS, residents in areas with a potential for wildfires can impact th.e risk and severity of
wildfires Id reduce deaths, injuries till d property losses through their preparedness efforts; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated day that engages com.rnimities in focusing on activities that create
awareness, education tiod action have the potential to make significant differences before, during
and after a wildfire; and
WHEREAS„ proactive actions from a single individu.al, or entire neighborhood, contributes to a
safer community when wildfires happen; ti.1 Id
WHEREAS, the residents of the City ,e,f McCall can become local champions through
committing a couple of hours, or an entire day to improving their property's defensibility t/id
resiliency; and contributes towards the City of McCall becoming a more fire adapted.
