The Council of the City of City of Medina met in Special Session on Wednesday, July 7, 1982
at 7:35 P.M.
Present: Mayor, Thomas Anderson; Councilmembers, Wilfred Scherer, William Reiser, Thomas
Crosby; Clerk -Treasurer, Donna Roehl; Attorney, Richard Schaeffer; Richard
Setter, Michael Sankey
Absent: Councilmember Lutz
Council discussed terms that would be included in a three year contract with Police
Chief applicant, Michael Sankey.
Discussed and agreed upon were the following:
Uniform allowance - 295
Vacation - 3 weeks based on 10 years of service; 4 days to be taken, Nov., 1982
Holidays
Health insurance
Life insurance
Sick leave
Severance pay
Evaluation
Probation
Termination
Contract term
Salary
Use of
- 11
- premium paid by city for employee and immediate family
- $5000 minimum, premium paid by employee
- 15 days at start with no accumulation until after 15 months employment,
then 1 day per month to accumulate to 60 days (480 hours)
- One half of accumulated to a maximum of 480 unused sick leave plus un-
used vacation
- At the end of 6 months, performance and salary review and arnually
thereafter when other employees are reviewed
- 6 months, if terminated during probation 8 weeks of sal*.ry to be paid
- For cause
- 3 years; 3 month notice to be given by either employer or employee
prior to end of contract; Option to renew at end of 3 years
- $30,000, annually, to include attendance at meetings,
city vehicle -Auto may be taken home, shall not be used for personal use
Council discussed with Mr. Sankey various work duties expected,including; Street patrol
as any other officer; secure valid training seminars for department officers; keep in-
formed as to what is happening in the city, both police and community; participate in
community organizations, if possible; seek approval of City Council for expenditures
of large amounts of money.
Motion by Reiser, seconded by Scherer to hire Michael Sankey as Chief of Police and
direct the City Attorney to prepare a 3 year contract which will include items agreed
upon.

RICHARD SETTER
Motion by Scherer, seconded by Crosby to pay Richard Setter $1600 plus expenses for
assistance in hiring a Chief of Police and to commend him for the excellent job he did.
Motion declared carried
Motion by Scherer, seconded by Reiser to ajourn.
