Coyne, Management Analyst SUBJECT: TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION ACTIONS — MEETING OF OCTOBER 22, 2014 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file the Transportation and Public Safety Commission (Commission) actions from their meeting of October 22, 2014. :• 74 On October 22, 2014, the Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting. ANALYSIS: Following is a summary of actions taken at the October 22, 2014 meeting: 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioner - Clift, Haddad, Nimri, Chairman Redmond, Vice - Chairman Stratis Absent: Commissioner - None Excused: Commissioner - None 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Commission approved the minutes of their October 8, 2014 meeting. City Council November 18, 2014 Page 2 of 2 3. PARKING CITATION HEARINGS The Commission held five hearings in person and upheld all five citations. The Commission held one hearing by written declaration and upheld the citation. 8. NEW BUSINESS A. INSTALLATION OF ALL -WAY STOP CONTROL AT THE INTERSECTION OF LONGDEN AVENUE AND ENCINITA AVENUE. Transtech Engineers gave a presentation of the study conducted to address line of sight issues at the intersection of Longden and Encinita Avenues. The Commission approved and forwarded the proposed All -Way Stop control to the City Council. B. INSTALLATION OF STOP- CONTROLS AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF BARELA AVENUE WITH VAL STREET AND INSTALLATION OF STOP CONTROL, STRIPING, AND RED CURBING AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF BARELA AVENUE WITH CRAIGLEE STREET. Transtech Engineers presented a survey done to consider installation of traffic controls at the above locations, prompted by - residents' concerns. The Commission approved the recommended installation of red curb and centerline striping at the curve of Barela Avenue and Craiglee Street, and directed Transtech to come back with recommendations about whether red curb is needed at the intersection of Barela Avenue and Woolley Street. The Commission did not approve the identified Stop controls until additional' feedback from residents is received. CONCLUSION: The City Council is requested to receive and file this report. FISCAL IMPACT: This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year 2014-15 City Budget.
