What Civil War Treasures Are In Your Attic?
Loudoun County Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Committee and
Thomas Balch Library sponsor free document scanning event
Leesburg, VA (March 19, 2013) – On Saturday, April
13, 2013, local residents are invited to bring family
manuscripts (letters, diaries, etc.) and photographs
from the Civil War era to be scanned for inclusion in
an online statewide collection of original Civil War
documents. At a similar scanning event in 2011, a
rare original photo of Cumberland George Orrison,
the first Confederate soldier to be killed in Loudo
County, was discovered. This year’s event could yield
a similar unknown Civil War treasure.
