With this money the new reduction figure is $170,067. On a motion by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. O'Reilly, it was voted unanimously to reduce the current budget by $92,698. (Tier III reductions) Chairman O'Reilly reported on the unanticipated cost of a special needs teacher for the deaf in the amount of $16,000. He felt the Finance Committee should be approached for the unanticipated expense which would bring the target reduction }number down to $61,369. He will attend the Finance Committee meeting on Thursday. Mr. Jones stated the indicated total budget amount to be voted on town meeting floor without the $16,000, would be $5,$41.061. (includes the $14,502 from the health ins. adjustment) After July 1s` it was suggested the School Committee ask for the funding for the special needs teacher of the deaf. If concessions come through, money will go back into the budget where it can best be used. Chairman O'Reilly suggested that cuts be reinstated. Dr. Hoffmann indicated that on May 15`~ and June ls` he will need to send contract renewal and non-renewal letters. On a motion by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr Tehran, it was voted unanimously to request from the town the amount of $5,841,061. An amendment to the motion was made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Tehran, and voted unanimously to request from the town the amount of $5,842,061. A member of the audience asked if the school committee would fight for the rental money lost from Cape Cod Collaborative on town meeting floor and it was indicated that the Finance Committee voted 3-2 not to provide the school committee with those funds. The school committee is waiting to see if the teachers' union will make some sort of concessions that would result in an increase in the amount spent on direct student services. Chairman O'Reilly indicated the Finance Committee and Selectmen helped them out last year and to bring forward the request for $47,000 of lost rental fees would not serve the committee well at this time. All school committee members were in agreement not to ask for the $47,000 and felt they did not want to create any undo hardship with the Selectmen and Finance Committees.
