Superintendent Gail Briere, Hans Baumhauer, Business Manager, Principal Gauley and Principal Denise Fronius Dr. Hoffmann called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m REORGANIZATION On a motion by Ms. Enochty, seconded by Mr. Telman, it was voted unanimously to appoint John O'Reilly as Chair of the Brewster School Committee. On a motion by Ms. Enochty, seconded by Mr. Telman, it was voted unanimously to appoint Jen Rabold as Vice Chair of the Brewster School Committee. Payroll authorizers: John O'Reilly Payroll authorizer alternate: Jen Rabold Policy Subcommittee: Marie Enochty Union/Reion CO Budget: Dave Telman Negotiations: Jen Rabold Cape Cod Collaborative: Mara Liebling/Jen Rabold PTO Liaison: Dave Telman Eddy School Council Liaison: John O'Reilly Stony Brook School Council Liaison: Mara Iiebling Building Committee Liaison: Dave Telman Union #54 Voting Member: John O'Reilly, Marie Enochty, and Jen Rabold Alternates: Dave Telman and Mara Liebling AGENDA CHANGES Principal Fronius reported that a donation had been given by the Brewster Garden Club to the school. Ms. Janet Husband, Vice President of the Garden Club was going to present the check but was unable to attend the meeting. Principal Fronius displayed pictures of the new garden and thanked Joanne Borsari, Kim Torres, Donna Brunelle, Dave Crocker, and the second grade teachers for all their help. On a motion by Ms. Enochty, seconded by Mr. Telman, it was voted unanimously to accept the donation of $250 from the Brewster Garden Club. CITIZENS SPEAK -none RECOGNITIONS Dr. Hoffmann recognized Thomas Shanahan and Lexi Schultz for being winners of the Peace Poetry Contest. Phoebe and Quinn Liebling were recognized for being winners of the United States 2010 Poster Contest. Teachers, Kathy Roy, Martha Dunford, Bonnie Cahill and Kathleen Stone, from the Stony Brook School were recognized for their numerous contributions to the Stony Brook Elementary School in a variety of areas some which include; Character Education, Region Writing Scoring Team. Collaboration , Health and Wellness. Dr. Hoffmann recognized Dr. Ann Caretti, for applying for Extraordinary Relief Funding and being the recipient of a $24,444 awazd for the Eddy and Stony Brook Schools. Brewster School Committee Minutes - Pa e 3 Principal Fronius asked the committee if they would waive a building fee for the First Parish Church in Brewster who would like to use the facility for 6-9 months on Sundays. Dr. Hoffmann suggested that the committee ask for half the usual fee to pay for heat and lights. On a motion by Ms. Rabold, seconded by Ms. Enochty, it was voted 3-0, 1 abstention (J. Rabold) to charge half of the fee for the use of the facilities at the Stony Brook School to the First Parish Church. Principal Gauley reported on MCAS testing, the volunteer luncheon, (thanking Sue Ford for all her help), and the Bike and Walk to School Day which is May 26d'. He also indicated that placement and transitions were underway . He invited committee members to some key events including Spring Concert on June 8`~ and Grade 5 Night on June 21 S`. He also brought to the committee a request from a parent for a memorial garden in memory of students who have passed away. On a motion by Ms. Enochty, seconded by Mr. Tehnan, it was voted unanimously to have a garden in memory of former students who attended the Brewster Elementary Schools whose lives have been taken too soon. FY11 BUDGET UPDATE Dr. Hoffmann reported that on May 3rd the committee took action to approve the budget figure. Administration proceeded with layoffs and reductions in force. Letters were hand delivered by Principals last Friday. He also reported that there was a $14,500 savings from health insurance and $16,000 from the Finance Committee, so $30,500 could be added back. Principal Gauley suggested that the Principals not make recommendations until the final figure is determined. FY10 BUDGET UPDATE Mr. Baumhauer reviewed the monthly expense reports. Next month the committee will see the $43,250 applied as well as the journal entries in the custodial accounts. He also noted that both schools can charge items to the capital plan next year. REPORTS AND INFORMATION Cape Cod Collaborative -none School Consolidation Plan Mr. Tehnan stated that Mr. Levasseur has been in touch with Representative Cleon Turner regarding legislation There is still a glimmer of hope in this regard. It was also noted that the Charter School has not found a new location yet. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Mr. Tehran, seconded by Ms. Enochty, it was voted unanimously to approve the minutes April 15, 2010 with the following corrections: Madeline Vreeland and Phoebe Liebling -spelling of names, Page 5 -the vote was 4-1. On a motion by Mr. Tehran, seconded by Ms. Enochty, it was voted unanimously to approve the minutes of April 27, 2010. On a motion by Mr. Tehran, seconded by Ms. Rabold, it was voted unanimously to approve the minutes of May 3, 2010. ADJOURNMENT On a motion by Mr. Tehran, seconded by Ms. Liebling, it was voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 9:50 p.m., subject to payment of bills. Respectfully submitted, Ann M.
