Plainfield Residents and Businesses Encouraged To Participate in Community Food Drive
Local Pantries Also Seeking Volunteers
Plainfield, IL -- September is National Hunger Action Month! To help support the local food pantries, the Village
of Plainfield, C.W. Avery Family YMCA, Plainfield Park District, Plainfield Area Public Library, Plainfield School
District 202, and Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce are encouraging everyone to donate to the
community food drive which benefits Bags of Hope, a private backpack food program, the Plainfield Area
Interfaith Food Pantry, and St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
Both the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry and St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry would appreciate donations
of cereal; canned chicken and tuna; peanut butter and jelly; pasta and pasta sauce; flour/sugar; rice; canned fruits
and vegetables; soups; macaroni & cheese; condiments; snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, and cheese &
crackers); and boxed potatoes. Personal hygiene products, baby items, household cleaning products, and paper
products are also welcomed. Bags of Hope would appreciate donations of canned fruit and breakfast foods at
this time.
Donations will be accepted at the following locations through September 29:
• C.W. Avery Family YMCA, 15120 Wallin Drive. The YMCA will also be collecting nonperishables during
their Fall Membership Sale on September 23. For details, please visit www.jolietymca.org.
• Plainfield Area Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois Street.
• Plainfield School District 202 Administration Center, 15732 Howard Street.
• Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce, 24109 W. Lockport Street.
• Plainfield Township Community Center, 15014 S. Des Plaines Street.
• Prairie Activity & Recreation Center (PARC), 24550 W. Renwick Road.
• Tortilla Flatz Mexican Grill, 13717 S. Route 30.
• Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street.
Other ways to help during Hunger Action Month:
• The pantries also need your time! If you are interested in volunteering, the local food pantries are always
in need of assistance. Please reach out to Bags of Hope, the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry, and
St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry for information on their volunteer opportunities.
• Help spread the word about Hunger Action Month, the community food drive, and the need for
volunteers!
