HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 1832 Resolution No. 1832 A Resolution Approving and Authorizing Financial Commitment for the Safe Routes to School Grant Program WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Village of Plainfield to implement infrastructure improvements and improve safe travel to and from schools; and WHEREAS, the Village Board wishes to support IDOT's Safe Routes to School Program and is committed to providing the necessary support and funds in the event that the Village receives grant funding to reimburse a portion of the Village's investment; and WHEREAS, the Village intends to construct sidewalks in the Benson, Plainfield Acres, and Getson Subdivisions along Benson Avenue,Julie Avenue, Fredrick Avenue, and Robert Avenue to provide a safe route to walk and bike to Central Elementary School and St. Mary Immaculate Parish School and connect the neighborhood to the Village's sidewalk network; and WHEREAS, the sidewalk improvements are eligible for reimbursement under the Safe Routes to School Program; and WHEREAS, the Village has available funds in the Capital Fund to finance the sidewalk and associated infrastructure improvements and the financial capability to maintain the improvements in a safe and attractive manner for public use; and WHEREAS, the Village President and the Board of Trustees have considered the Village's participation in the Safe Routes to School Grant Program and determined that it is in the best interests of the Village and its residents to enter into the program for the benefit of the project; and NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF PLAINFIELD, COUNTY OF WILL, STATE OF ILLINOIS, as follows: SECTION ONE: RECITALS. The foregoing recitals are incorporated in, and made a part of, this Resolution by this reference as findings of the Plainfield Village Board. SECTION TWO: APPROVAL. The Village's participation in the Illinois Safe Routes to School Program and financial commitment to construct and maintain the eligible improvements is hereby approved. SECTION THREE: EFFECTIVE DATE. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. PASSED THIS 18th DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 2023.
