HomeMy Public PortalAboutAll Citizens Access -- 2011-01-21 Minutes ALL CITIZENS ACCESS COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes Jan. 21, 2011 Members Present: Jean Sears, Brian Ladley, Denise Rego, Christine Glasheen, Robert Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann First item on the agenda was the Open Meeting Law. All the members acknowledged that they received the on-line version of the updated law and signed receipts to that effect. These receipts the Chair will return to the Town Clerk. The Chair passed out "211" information sheets that she received from the United Way. Carla Burke from the Harwich Disability Commission would like to have our committee share its agendas and meeting minutes. The Chair thought this a good idea and the committee members agreed. Updates: Tom Thatcher is getting quotes for the work to be done at Town Hall, basically modifying a section of various departments counters to accommodate a person using a wheelchair. The Chair questioned how best to follow up with trying to get Superintendent Peterson at Nickerson State Park to make the visitors center wheelchair accessible. Jean was going to see if she could get the Superintendent's telephone number. Collapsible beach wheelchair. The Friends of the COA would like to purchase a "hippocampe beach wheelchair for the town. Brewster has two beach wheelchairs, one is three years old; the other well over twelve years old. This new one would replace the older one. It is made by Vipamat, comes in different sizes, is lightweight, and folds up to fit in the trunk of a car. One of the problems with our present beach wheelchairs is that they are big and bulky and have to be transported to the beach by a van or truck. If the Friends decide to purchase it, Denise will have sales representative come to demonstrate it. The Chair also thanked Denise for using black ink in the Bayside Chatter rather than the lighter inks used in earlier editions. Denise is aware of the problems with the lighter inks and is meeting with the printer's rep about it. Denise gave the Chair a letter she received from Wamp/Worx LLC regarding a variance from handicap requirements on work to be done at their facility in Brewster. The committee felt that this is something that is best left to the Building Inspector. The Chair mentioned that she is not able to continue doing the posting of meetings and meeting minutes as well as chair the committee. Rotating chairmanships such as is done by Eastham's Pace group was mentioned but the members felt that might not work for us. Further discussion of this matter at our next meeting. Accessible Restaurant List: Denise will be in touch with the Visitors Center to see what they need and when they need it for our list to be included in this year's Brewster Guide Book. The committee reviewed the restaurants on its list and talked about the best way to list the information. Denise will follow up and let us know. Meeting adjourned at 3:30pm. Next meeting tentatively scheduled for February 25y 2011. Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann
