ALL CITIZENS ACCESS COMMITTEE OF BREWSTER
Meeting Minutes for April 16, 2010
The meeting began at 2pm.
Members present: Christine Glasheen, Brian Ladley, Denise Rego, Robert
Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann.
Members not present: Jean Sears.
The March 19,2010 meeting minutes were accepted.
The committee welcomed Denise Rego as a new member. Denise is the COA Director and represents the
town appointed/elected member of our committee required by law.
State Ethics Certificate: All members present received their certificate. Denise will check with Jean
Sears re her status.
The Steinmanns attended a meeting regarding independent living sponsored by a new group: The Aging
and Disability Resource Consortium (ADRC). ADRC is a collaboration of Elder Services of Cape Cod
and the Islands, CORD, and various other community partners. Its purpose is to provide information,
advocacy and access to services for the elderly and people with disabilities in Barnstable, Dukes, and
Nantucket Counties. The keynote speaker was Kathy Gips, Director of Training from the New England
ADA Center Institute for Human Centered Design, whose topic was "living independently--staying at
home"; her website is <humancentereddesign.org>.
The Chair mentioned an article in the Cape Cod Times re state grants. Denise will start checking on line
for information re grants, etc., and the committee thought it a good idea to see if we could get Elizabeth
Taylor to come to our June 18th meeting to discuss the issues and processes regarding grants and
funding.
Beach wheelchair information sheets: Denise will post one at the COA and Town Hall; Maureen will give
some to the Brewster Visitors Center.
The Chair noted that the bookdrop at the Brewster's Ladies Library has been made accessible.
The Chair had received a letter from DPW Superintendent, Bob Bersin, re the outside sign at Town
Hall. The committee recommended replacing the existing sign with two regular"handicap" directional
signs indicating where the location of Town Hall's handicap entrance is as well as two interior"elevator"
directional signs.
Web site info at some point will include general recommendations for businesses as to how they can
improve accessibility at their establishments.
Next meeting will be an on-site review of ponds and the herring run.
Meeting adjourned at 3:10 pm. Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann.
