Subject: ACAC June 17 Meeting Minutes
ALL CITIZENS ACCESS COMMITTEE - - _ --
Meeting Minutes for June 17, 2011
Meeting began at 2:10 pm
Members present: Jean Sears, Brian Ladley, Denise Rego, Robert Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann and
John Dickson, the committee's newly appointed liason to the Board of Selectmen.
The committee accepted the meeting minutes for May 20th, 2011 as written.
The committee welcomed Mr. John Dickson as our liason to the Board of Selectmen. His email address
is jdickson(atown.brewster.ma.us
The Chair mentioned that she will be speaking before the Selectmen at their June 20th meeting re
accessibility at Brewster's beaches, especially, Paines Creek and Crosby Landing, because those beaches
were mentioned by the Selectmen at their June 6th meeting.
Handicap Parking at Paines Creek. There is one handicap parking space at Paines Creek. The Chair
contacted Jeff Dougan re handicap parking regulations for public beaches with 1-14 parking spaces. The
town is required to have one handicap parking space and it should be a "van accessible" one.
Drummer Boy Park: The Dog Committee has offered an alternative site for a dog park, namely, behind
the Police Station. If the Selectmen approve this site rather than siting a dog park in a section of
Drummer Boy then, hopefully, they will begin the process of making Drummer Boy Park an accessible
park for all.
Grist Mill: Dana Condit advised the Chair that the dam at the Millsite will be rebuilt within a couple of
years. Dana felt that the access route for the large equipment need to do the work would be a ready-
made accessible pathway from the sidewalk to the dam site when the work is completed. Dana is very
committed to making the Millsite area as accessible as possible.
JAM Directory: The Chair spoke with Jean Ann McLaughlin and she did not publish her accessibility
directory this year. However, the information is available on line at www.capecoddisability.org
Dial-a-Ride: Information re this was in the COA Bulletin. Denise will check to make sure this service is
wheelchair accessible.
Town Hall Counters: The Chair mentioned that she has not yet followed up on this with Tom Thatcher.
Mobi-Mat Recreational pathway: The Chair learned from Helen Derman of Eastham's PACE group
that the mobi-mat was being used at Coast Guard Beach. Helen also sent pictures which were forwarded
to all ACAC members. Bob and Maureen checked this mobi-mat out on a couple of different days and

primary wheelchair accessible beach if the problems at Crosby's cannot be solved. John Dickson noted
that the Selectmen hope to be developing a master plan for the town's beaches and he thought the issue of
accessibility should be a part of that.
No date was set for our next meeting. Meeting adjourned at 3:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann.
