Leesburg to Celebrate Memorial Day with Observance at
Loudoun County Courthouse on Monday, May 27, 2013
Leesburg, VA (May 20, 2013) –
The Mayor, Town Council, and
Memorial Day Host Committee
are honored to present
Leesburg’s annual Memorial Day
Observance, beginning at
10:00am on Monday, May 27,
2013, at the Loudoun County
Courthouse in downtown
Leesburg.
The Town’s annual Memorial Day
Observance, with the laying of
wreaths at each of the war memorials, honors all of the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen
who have served in defense of our country, in all conflicts. Veterans, active duty military, their
families and all members of the public are invited to join in this tribute, which will feature
patriotic music and military presentations.
This year’s featured speaker is Lieutenant General Richard P. Mills, U.S. Marine Corps, who
currently serves as the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration at
Quantico, Virginia. Lt Gen Mills’ impressive career has spanned the globe with assignments in
Japan, Palestine, Germany, Italy, Iraq, and Afghanistan, to name a few. He is the first Marine
Corps General Officer to command NATO forces in combat. Other special guests attending the
ceremony will include Leesburg VFW Post #1177, American Legion Post #181, and local
musicians and re‐enactors.
The ceremony will begin at 10:00am in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse. Downtown
Leesburg will have road closures in effect from 9:30am through 11:30am, including Market
Street, from Church Street to Wirt Street, and King Street, from Loudoun Street to North
Street. Event guests are encouraged to park in the Leesburg Town Hall Parking Garage, using
the Loudoun Street entrance. Additional on‐street parking will be available for ceremony
attendees with special needs.
