HomeMy Public PortalAboutCemetery Commission -- 2011-03-26 Minutes Minutes for the March 26,2011 Attendance: Joan Vachon, Dick Lockyer,Norma Modzelewski, Joan Carstanjen and Jeff Day. Called to order at 2:30 First item on our agenda is landscaping for Brewster Memorial. Joan Carstanjen suggested that we buy an plant a willow tree to help with dampness in BMC. Joan Vachon thought we might try forsythia and ever one agreed that several benches should be added to the low laying area. The BCC asked DPW representative Jeff Day if it would be easier if we paid for items to be delivered to t BMC. The BCC is sensitive to the issue that the DPW is short handed. Jeff believes that if an item needs two people that paying for deliver will speed up the project.. The BCC agrees and will have several heavy benches delivered in the next month. Joan Carstanjen and Norma Modzelewski will be heading off for special training by the Association of Gravestone Studies. The class will teach advanced techniques for the repair of gravestones. This class wil make us less reliant on others, The DPW installed the case at First Parish Church. The case has several items that need reworking and builder Barry Oliver is helping with that. Norma and Joan visited the case and we feel that it can be filled the next week or so, weather permitting. Fee increases for BMC are still pending approval from the Selectmen. The group is in agreement that we must move foreword with plans to enlarge Brewster Memorial Cemete] We are with in three years of being filled. We will bring this before the Selectmen also. Joan Vachon will submit a note to the local paper stating that spring clean up will begin and ask folks to remove items of value. Clean up happens two to three times a year and removal of dead plants and broke] items takes place. A new rules for benches has been worked out for BMC. The benches must meet the approval of the Brewster Cemetery Commission and placement will be in designated areas only. The is also must go befc the town Selectmen. With no other business we adjourned at 3:15. Submitted by Joan Carstanjen !I fY
