As for the brick cracks, there should be an expansion joint between the porch and the house. Natural expansion and contraction between the house and porch is causing the failed joints. It is recommended that the soffit stucco covering of the porch be removed and any deteriorated wood framing members be replaced. The owner indicated a wood replacement for the stucco would be acceptable. This could be an exterior grade of plywood with an A finish painted with an exterior grade of paint. Color to be determined by the owner. As for the masonry cracking, the joint between the house and porch would need to be cut out and caulked with a backer rod. The joint should be through the entire assembly to be effective. The color of the caulk should match the mortar joint. The area of work is shown below: Replace damaged stucco soffit around total front porch Repoint cracked mortar joints on both sides of porch Install expansion joint between house and porch masonry on both sides of porch Repoint cracked mortar joints on both sides of porch Install expansion joint between house and porch masonry on both sides of porch Replace damaged stucco soffit around total front porch View of front of 929 Fairmount from the street.
