MEDINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF JULY 21, 2009
The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on July 21, 2009 at 6:03
p.m. in the Medina City Hall.
I. Call to Order
Members present: Weir, Crosby, Siitari, Smith
Members absent: Johnson
Also present: City Administrator Chad Adams, Finance Director Jeanne Day,
Associate Planner Dusty Finke, and Public Works Superintendent
Steve Scherer
II. Planning Department Staff Resources and 2009 City Work Plan and Strategy
Adams provided an overview of the packet memo's content and intent. Adams
questioned if there was anything else the staff could do differently to help facilitate and
accomplish the City's work plan efforts.
Discussion was held on the memo contents, necessity for preparing the memo, balance of
resources, priority of projects, etc. The Council agreed that policies and priorities do
necessarily occur and modifications to the work plan and flexibility with accomplishing
the work plan are also needed.
Adams discussed the Planning Department resource recommendations in the memo.
Following discussion, the Council agreed to amend the Planning Department resources
plan by:
• Obtaining quotes from planning consultants for reviewing any incoming
formal land use applications.
• Conducting a search process for a part-time planning position to craft the
mixed -use zoning regulations, other ordinances and eventually land -use
applications as needed.
• Not hiring a community development intern (as the part-time planning
position will provide subsequent staff resources at City Hall).
III. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
