Gallagher noted this would involve Chris Miller and Ryan Burch. This was included in the original scope document. Taylor asked about volunteers to count birds. No volunteers have come forward except Taylor. Bennett asked about outfall from cranberry bogs. Leven confirmed SMAST is not looking at the bogs. There was continued discussion. Bennett shared an example of a bog in Cotuit and asked about availability of reports. Hughes, P added there is a study of work being done in southeast MA. Schell added that there is a bog adjacent to Elbow Pond (which overflows into Walker's Pond) and one adjacent to Long Pond and Girl Scout Pond, both suspected of contributing nutrients (N, P)to adjacent ponds. CWPC 12-12-11.doc Page 1 of 3 Bennett stated that bogs could be making a substantial contribution to the ponds. There was continued discussion about bogs near Elbow Pond. Schell shared an example of the potential for nutrient reduction by stream diversion into an abandoned down gradient bog. Schell is not aware of a similar stream/bog config uration in Brewster. Bennett would like to have more information. He suggested revisiting after the New Year. Leven explained they are reducing sampling from 12 to 6 and then putting 2 sondes (monitors) in Upper Mill and Walkers ponds with the money saved from reducing the sampling.
