HomeMy Public PortalAboutConservation Commission -- 2011-07-22 Minutes Brewster Conservation Commission Friday July 22, 2011, 7:30 am Site Visit— Sea Pines Condominiums, SE 9-1491 Commissioners present: Steve McKenna, Ken Rollins, Jeanne Boehm, Bruce Evans Staff present: James Gallagher, Conservation Administrator Also present: Gordon Peabody, Emily Beebe The site visit consisted of discussion of view corridors and managed areas. Site specific discussions: Unit 255: This unit was pruned this summer by Save A Tree under the supervision of James Gallagher. This unit is also proposed to become a heathland area. Unit 257: This unit is adjacent to unit 255. This unit is already managed as a heathland area. The proposal is to expand this heathland on both sides (areas 1&2 on site plan). Discussion of units 255 & 257 included suggestions that unit 255 could be maintained as a transition to heathland at 255. Also discussion as to whether the area east of 257 (#2 on plan) should be converted to heathland or should remain unmanaged. Site visit moved to units 239, 241, & 245. Discussion revolved around 4 cherry trees at the northeast end of view corridor at unit 245. These cherry trees were in poor condition. Proposal to replace these cherry trees with native shrubs. Site visit moved to units 24, 22, 20 & 18. Discussion revolved around 2 oak trees at unit 18. Discussion also revolved around cherry trees at unit 24. Steve McKenna suggested a pro-active replacement plan. That would be to plant replacement trees prior to removal. Final discussion: Applicant to submit a revised proposal for site specific actions. The revised proposal will be discussed at the August 2, 2011 Conservation Commission meeting if received prior to Thursday, July 28, 2011. Respectfully Submitted, James Gallagher Conservation Administrator I. I•
