HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2013-06-07 Sycolin Overpass construction Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Sycolin Road Overpass Construction to Begin on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in Leesburg Traffic signal at Sycolin Road and the Route 7/15 Bypass will be removed permanently. Leesburg, VA (June 7, 2013) – On Saturday, June 8, 2013, construction of the Sycolin Road Overpass across the Route 7/15 Bypass will begin. The traffic signal at the intersection of Sycolin Road and the Bypass will be removed permanently and Sycolin Road will be closed between Hope Parkway and Gateway Drive. Once the signal is removed, access to southbound Sycolin Road will be via Battlefield Parkway, from either Route 7 (East Market Street) or the Dulles Greenway. The Battlefield Parkway exit on the Greenway is toll-free. The map below outlines the new traffic patterns: (more) TOL PR 2013-06-07 Sycolin Overpass construction Page 2 In response to the new traffic patterns, VDOT and the Town of Leesburg will monitor traffic signals on Route 7 (East Market Street) and Battlefield Parkway. If citizens experience unusual delays related to the timing of these traffic signals, they can notify the Town by completing a form on the Town website at www.leesburgva.gov/trafficconcern. Construction of the Sycolin Overpass is expected to be completed in August 2014. During construction, Sycolin Road will be closed from Gateway Drive to Hope Parkway. Once completed, the new overpass will restore traffic on Sycolin Road between Gateway Drive and Hope Parkway. However, there will be no access to Sycolin Road from the Bypass or to the Bypass from Sycolin Road.
