IONA COMMUNITY CENTER
JANUARY 13, 2016 6:30 P.M.
PRESENT: Chairman Melanie Shirling, Member Dee Johnson, Member John Lott, Member
Bette Lovinus, Member Roy Hobbs, Member Jake Lindsay, and Clerk Shara Roberts.
ABSENT: None.
VISITORS: None.
Chairman Melanie Shirling welcomed everyone and led with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Approval of Minutes: Member John Lott moved to approve the minutes for December 9, 2015
as written. Member Dee Johnson seconded the motion. All were in favor, motion carried.
Member Dee Johnson moved to approve the minutes for January 7, 2016 as written. Member
Bette Lovinus seconded the motion. All were in favor, motion carried.
Items of Business: The Commission had no items of business at this time.
Reports:
Clerk Roberts reported that Rockwell Homes will be attending the upcoming City Council work
meeting on Tuesday January 19, 2016 starting at 6:00 p.m. to discuss upcoming development.
Member Roy Hobbs asked for a report on the Planning and Zoning Special Work Meeting on
January 7, 2016. Chairman Melanie Shirling reported after further discussion it was determined
the next step forward would be scheduling a time to discuss with County Commissioner Dave
Radford to identify what is needed and expected in the outline of the Area of Impact Agreement,
what issues are present in the agreement, and what negotiations are feasible. Member Dee
Johnson explained that the main issue needing to be discussed or negotiated is the lot sizes.
Member Roy Hobbs explained it is important to not only work out the negotiations in the Area of
Impact Agreement, but to make sure that language is consistent in the City's Comprehensive
Plan. Chairman Melanie Shirling inquired if the City Attorney could lead making the necessary
changes to that document. Member Roy Hobbs recommended a committee to outline the changes
and then present it to the community in the form of a public meeting. Member Jake Lindsay
volunteered to be the lead on organizing such a committee. Member Dee Johnson recommended
waiting to organize the committee until after the negotiation discussion with the County.
