Leesburg Hosts 23rd Annual Independence Day Celebration on
Thursday, July 4, 2013
Festivities will begin with downtown parade at 10am and continue at 6pm with
concert and fireworks show at Ida Lee Park
Leesburg, VA (June 20, 2013) – Celebrate
the 4th of July in true hometown style at
the Town of Leesburg’s 23nd annual
Independence Day Celebration on
Thursday, July 4, 2013.
Start the holiday by showing your patriotic
spirit at the annual Independence Day
Parade, held through Historic Downtown
Leesburg beginning at 10am. The parade
will start at Ida Lee Park, travel down King
Street and conclude at Fairfax Street. Put on your patriotic best and join your friends and
neighbors to celebrate the birthday of the United States! This year’s parade will also feature the
6th annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by the Leesburg Today newspaper. This award
will go to the best parade entry; winners’ names will be engraved on the Patriot Cup, which will
be on display at Town Hall for the remainder of the year.
Back this year is the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps, sponsored by Toth Financial. This
traditional corps adds a patriotic sound to the parade and is a favorite among parade viewers.
The group will perform at the intersection of King and Market Street as a prelude to the parade.
Plan to arrive downtown by 9:45am to hear the fife and drums before the parade kicks off.
If you are interested in participating in the parade, entry is free! Please contact Ida Lee Park
Recreation Center (703-777-1368) for an application or visit www.idalee.org for an online
version. King Street will close to through-traffic at 9:30am in preparation for the parade.
Downtown streets will re-open at approximately 11:30am.
The celebration kicks into high gear at 6:00pm when the gates open at Ida Lee Park for the

“Celebration in the Park.” Be sure to arrive early and grab a spot on the lawn for a full night of
fun, food and great music. The tunes will start at 6:30pm with the Landshark Band, featuring
the island sounds of Jimmy Buffett, The Beach Boys and other summertime favorites. A full
food court will be onsite with funnel cakes, shave ice, barbecue and other goodies.
The biggest bang of the evening begins at 9:30pm when the largest fireworks show in the
region will light up the sky. Choreographed to patriotic music, this light show is not to be
missed. Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive, and the festival field parking off
King Street. The Town of Leesburg staff will work hard to insure that as many vehicles as
possible are parked in the park, so attendees are asked to be patient while waiting to enter and
exit. The Town also reminds our guests to use designated cross walks.
Leesburg Fire and Rescue Volunteers will be on site to provide medical assistance if needed.
Coolers and large bags are permitted but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, glass
bottles and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted. In the event of rain,
fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5th at 9:30pm. No other activities will be rescheduled.
Special thanks to our 2013 Independence Day Sponsors, including Leesburg Today/Ashburn
Today newspapers, the Loudoun Hounds and the Virginia Cavalry.
