Board of Health Meeting
Tuesday May 24, 2011 at 7:00PM
Town Hall, Room A
Present: Joanne Hughes, Keith Johnson, Lem Skidmore, Dr. Mary Chaffee, Dr. Jose Fernandez, Nancy Ellis Ice,
Health Director and Tammi Mason, Senior Department Assistant.
1. Reorganization of the Board
MC-nominated JH as Chairman. KJ seconded. 5 yes.
KJ- nominated LS as Vice Chairman. JH seconded. 5 yes.
LS will be the representative for the CWPC
JH will be the representative for the WQRC/alternate will be JF
MC will be the representative for the Recycling Committee/alternate will be JH
2. Discuss proposed Recycling Regulation proposal
*A copy of the proposed Brewster regulation and the Sandwich Regulation was submitted for review by the
Board
Jillian Douglass who is a member of the Recycling Committee brought this before the Board to get their
approval of the proposed regulation. She explained to the Board that they are looking to adopt a Pay as You
Throw waste disposal system. As part of this, Brewster would require that all private haulers that pick up
trash in Brewster must offer recycling services. The Board of Health has the authority to adopt this regulation
and JD is asking that they do so, so that the Recycling Commission can apply for the grant.
The Board stated that they are in favor of this proposed regulation and agreed to hold a public hearing.
3. Minutes from May 10, 2011 meeting
LS-accept minutes from May 10, 2011 meeting as written. KJ seconded. 3 yes.
