Meeting Minutes
Steering Committee
April 12,2011
Attending: Jane Harris, Larry Ballantine, Judith Bruce, Fran McClennen, Chuck Bartlett,
Chris Miller, Carole Ridley
Judith convened the meeting at 4 pm.
Minutes of March 8, 2011 were approved.
The committee held a discussion on possible letters to the editor of the Cape Codder
regarding Orleans wastewater management planning. Judith reported she is submitting
one. Fran offered to submit one, and suggested it might be better coming from the whole
committee. It was agreed that it would be best to consider the matter further and perhaps
send a letter in a week or so.
Larry reported that there would he a public meeting on the.Harwich wastewater
management plan on April 21s`at 7pm at Town Hall. The presentation will locus on
disposal sites.
Carole provided the following updates:
Fertilizer Management Report
• The March 25th event was a success, with about 60 people attending. The feedback
on the speakers was excellent. Jill Mason is finishing the editing of the videotape,
which will he available to all local cable access channels. When ready,Judith
suggested contacting John Kelly about getting the information on the Orleans
channel.
Muddy Creek
The latest information is that federal funding is secured.
> The Alliance's selection committee came up with the same recommendation as the
Conservation District. Fuss and O'Neill was selected to undertake the study. A kick
off meeting is scheduled for April 15th at 10 am in Harwich Town Hall.
Coastal Processes
> The coastal work group is working on a resource management plan amendment to
address improvement dredging. This will he discussed at the April work group
meeting.
> Coastal atlas mapping is moving ahead, and draft maps will be available at the April
meeting.
D. George Meservey asked if the Alliance would want to participate in an aerial flyover.
The Town of Orleans is doing a whole town flyover in concert with the Chatham
outer beach flyover, but this will leave out portions of the Bay. The Steering
Committee voted to spend up to $1.000 to contribute to he project.

> Ted Keon has suggested the idea of a tide range analysis which might be helpful to
Conservation. Commissions and navigators because it would provide a clear and
reliable reference point for Pleasant Bay tides. This will be discussed further with the
work group and a proposal may he brought forward at a later date.
Website
> Work continues on the wehsite. Text has been drafted and design concepts have been
developed.
NDA publication
> The FOPB is planning to include information about the No Discharge Area in their
upcoming recreation guide. Carole suggested that this could be distributed in lieu of a
separate boaters guide this year. Chris pointed out that it is not worth mailing to all
mooring permit holders since the vast majority do not have MSDs. Carole will
contact EIiza MeClennen to see about plans for distribution of the guide.
The planning meeting for the 2011 water quality monitoring season is scheduled for
Friday April 22nd at 10 am.
