Leesburg’s Finance Department Receives Excellence in
Financial Reporting Award for 26th Straight Year
Leesburg, VA (July 24, 2013) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has
awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Town of
Leesburg for its Fiscal Year 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Leesburg has
received this award for twenty-six consecutive years.
The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. Attainment of this award represents a
significant accomplishment by a government organization and its management. In order to
receive the certificate, an impartial panel judged the Town’s CAFR as meeting the high
standards of the GFOA’s program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full
disclosure” to clearly communicate the Town’s financial story and to motivate users to read the
CAFR.
“Paying attention to the dollars and cents is often a thankless job,” commented John Wells,
Leesburg’s Town Manager. “The consistently outstanding effort and attention to detail
exhibited by the Town’s Finance staff year after year after year is demonstrated by this award.
Leesburg residents and taxpayers should know that this achievement puts Leesburg in the top
tier of communities across the country, in terms of financial management.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving
over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America.
