Leesburg Ranks in the Top 50 of CNN Money’s “Best Places to
Live” for 2013
Leesburg, VA (August 13, 2013) – CNN Money’s 2013 list of the “Best Places to Live” in the
United States, released yesterday, features the Town of Leesburg, Virginia, in the number 35
spot. The report highlighted Leesburg’s charming downtown, commitment to preserving the
historical architecture and proximity to amenities like the Northern Virginia wine country.
“We are thrilled by CNN Money’s decision to again place Leesburg on the list of the Best Places
to Live in the United States,” commented Kristen Umstattd, Mayor of Leesburg. “This is a
tremendous accomplishment for all our citizen and corporate volunteers who work hard every
day to keep our historic town a safe, charming, vibrant and thriving community.”
The biennial list highlights communities with populations between 10,000 and 50,000. Median
family income, median home prices, job growth, school test scores, crime rates, commute times
and other factors were taken into account in the rankings. Leesburg was one of only two
Virginia towns to make the Top 50 list, along with the Town of Vienna, which came in at
number three.
“We are, of course, delighted to be included in the Best Places to Live list,” said Marantha
Edwards, Leesburg’s Economic Development Director. “We made the list at number four in
2011, and the one negative comment in this year’s listing was that many of our residents
commute. We’ve got so much momentum right now in attracting new businesses to Leesburg,
especially with our recent HUBZone designation. I fully expect we will go back up in the
rankings in 2015!”
