Minutes Cemetery Resource Board Meeting Thursday,March 16,2017 Members Present: Nancy Thompson, Chair Tim Theroff, Co-Chair Jeanne Rutledge Beth Bock Rebecca Gordon Pat Rowe Kerr Members Absent: Dawn Hackman Council Liaison: Mark Schreiber Staff: David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager Don Beck, Property Maintenance Inspector Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order. A quorum was present. The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday, March 16,2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Conference Room,lower level of the John G.Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street,Jefferson City, Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the February 16,2017 meeting by Tim Theroff, Beth Bock seconded. Minutes were approved. Old Business: Nancy Thompson gave an update on the GIS project that the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resource Board and Lincoln University is working on. Nancy reported that Dr.Tesfaye has eight students from Lincoln University working on the project. They are entering the name, location, and taking a photo of the grave stones present. They are then entering them into a hand held device and when finished this information will go to a website for the information to be available. Dr.Tesfaye hopes to be done by the end of the school year with Old City Cemetery. Rebecca Gordon gave a report on the veteran tombstone applications. Currently four docents are working on the applications. Nancy mentioned that Michelle Brooks with the News Tribune would like to do an article on the veteran tombstone project. Discussion occurred between board members on the process on getting the applications completed. Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board pg.2 March 16,2017 A date was set for the Historic Walking Tour in Woodland and Old City Cemetery. The Cemetery Resource Board finalized a date of Saturday,June 3,2017 from 12:00 p.m.to 3:00 p.m. Discussion occurred between board members regarding getting volunteers for helping with the tour. Nancy discussed her idea of using the East Capitol Avenue Renewal Plan as a neighborhood that could be featured in the walking tour. Nancy distributed a list of individuals that could be featured during the tour to the board members. Placement of balloons was discussed between board members and the idea of placing American flags at the locations would help identify where people needed to go. The colors of red,white, and blue balloons were recommended by Nancy. The tour is going to have focused area of from the entrance of Woodland Cemetery to the Clark Mausoleum. Councilman Schreiber asked whether the hearse should be brought back this year as an attraction during the tour. The board decided it should be brought back like last year. Other items discussed were making chairs, table, and tents for the tour and the house next door available for use for the docent's as a break area. The subject of using service people to help with the cemetery clean-up before the Walking Tour was discussed. Pat Rowe Kerr gave an update on using service people and Larry Henry could help with obtaining their service. Items will be needed such as trash bags,gloves, rakes,etc.for use by the community service workers. David Grellner said he can help with obtaining these items. The"Gone but Not Forgotten Monument"was discussed and the progress of the names. The gentleman who has been hired has not placed the names on the monument yet. Tim Theroff stated he will contact him to see what the status is. New Business: David Grellner mentioned that a donation from Cook,Vetter, Doerhoff,and Landwehr had been received by the City of Jefferson and the intent was to use the money for adding names to the"Gone but Not Forgotten Monument". Board members discussed the use of the money and determined approximately eighteen names could be placed on the monument with the donation. Other Topics and Issues: The next Cemetery Resource Board Meeting was set for April 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Conference Room at City Hall.
