Cemetery Resources Board Meeting

Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order. A quorum was present.
The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson
Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street,Jefferson City,
Missouri.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the April 20, 2017 meeting by Jeanne Rutledge.
Dawn Hackmann seconded. Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
Jill Ryan, City of Jefferson GIS Division,gave a presentation on the GIS project that was completed in Old
City Cemetery in conjunction with Lincoln University. Jill also discussed the GIS mapping project
completed in Longview Cemetery. City staff as well as the public will be able to access the GIS map to
locate individuals interred in these cemeteries.
Rebecca Gordon gave an update on the veteran grave marker project. Rebecca reported that she will be
meeting next week to discuss the applications with the docents. Pat Rowe Kerr gave an update on using
service workers to help clean-up the cemetery. She has contacted Regina Kilmer who is in charge of the
Naval Sea Cadets(youth organization). She is working on a time where this organization can help with
clean-up of the cemetery.

David Grellner gave an update on the"Gone but Not Forgotten" monument. The work has not been
completed at this time. Nancy announced the"Walking Tour" has been postponed from June 3,2017 to
hopefully sometime this fall. Discussion occurred between board members regarding what date would
work for the walking tour. A tentative date of Sunday,September 24, 2017 was discussed for the tour.
New Business:
David Grellner gave an update on the restoration project for the gravestones in Woodland and Old City
Cemetery. David announced twenty-four gravestones are currently being bid out for repair.
Other Topics and Issues:
Nancy Thompson discussed the Herric Family Plot located in Old City Cemetery. She announced that the
Historic City of Jefferson would be donating funds in the amount of$5000.00 to help restore this family
plot. Nancy also discussed other projects that needed attention in the cemetery such as the Clarke
Mausoleum door, main gate (welding repair),and Grieshammer Family lot(iron fence repair). The
Cemetery Resource Board also discussed other sources for obtaining funds for restoration of the
cemetery. The board would like to focus on the subject of liability with the gravestones in Old City and
Woodland Cemetery in hopes to obtain funding from City Council on an annual basis.
Nancy Thompson has been invited to the Salute to American Festival on July 4 to display a booth in the
Heritage Village area of the festival. Councilman Schreiber announced that on May 27,2017 a
dedication of a new columbarium at Riverview Cemetery would occur.
Other Topics and Issues:
The next Cemetery Resource Board Meeting was set for June 15,2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas
Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
