Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order.Aquorum was present.
The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday, August 17,2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson
Room,lower levelof the John G.Christy Municipal Building,320 E.McCarty Street, Jefferson City,
Missouri.
Approval of the Minutes:
Amotion was made for approval of the minutes fromthe July27, 2017. Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
The discussion ofveterans' gravestoneswas discussed byboardmembers.Rebecca Gordon reported
that the veteranstone projectwas coming along.More work will be completed inthe following months
regarding the veteran stone applications.Theboard discussed creatinga relationship with new Interim
Lincoln University President Michael Middleton. Apartnership needs to be established with Lincoln
University insupport of identifying veterans in Old City and WoodlandCemetery.
David Grellnerreported that the paper workforthe bidshas been sent to the City ofJefferson
Purchasing Division forthe Herrick Grave Lot restoration project.Purchasing will send out the bid
specifications to prospective cemetery restoration contractors.Nancy Thompson gavea briefreporton
howthe Cemetery Resources Board report to the Council went this past month. Thereport was well
received by the Mayor and Council.

New Business:

David Grellner gave update on the restoration project of restoring the twenty-four gravestones in Old
City and Woodland Cemetery. This past week Capital Monuments completed the work. Nancy is
working with Ruthie Caplinger on creating an educational tour of Old City and Woodland Cemetery for
Jefferson City Public School students. Also included in the tour will be the Jefferson City Fire Museum,
and the National Cemetery. Nancy has also set up the display she used for the Fourth of July
Celebration at the schools so students can learn about the historical people interred in the municipal
cemeteries.
The planting of flowers was discussed in Old City and Woodland Cemetery. Beth Bock reported that the
Heritage Girls from Capital West Christian Church could be a help in planting flowers. Nancy asked Beth
to extend an invitation to the girls for their help.
Rebecca Gordon mentioned the historic walking tour in 2018 and if the board would like to have it.
Discussion occurred between board members on when to have it, possibly in the spring or fall. A
tentative date of April 28, 2018 was mentioned for the walking tour.
Other Topics and Issues:
The next Cemetery Resources Board meeting was set for Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
