Cemetery Resources Board Meeting

Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order.A quorum was present.
The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday,October 19,2017 at 10:00 a.m.in the Thomas
Jefferson Room,lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building,320 E.McCarty Street,Jefferson
City,Missouri.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the August 17,2017,by Pat Rowe Kerr,Jeanne
Rutledge seconded.Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
Veterans'gravestones were discussed by board members.Mark Schreiber stated he had talked to
Jerod Atteberry with Capital Monument Company regarding veteran stones.Jerod mentioned the
possibility of a larger monument be erected for the veterans'names to be placed on.This would be like
the "Gone But Not Forgotten Monument"where names can be added for those veteran graves that
cannot be located.
David Grellner reported that no bids were received on the Herrick Family Grave Project.The bids will be
re-advertised to see if any further bids will be received.The bidding process should be completed in two
weeks.David Grellner did report that the Sara Walker Grave Site Project received a bid for its
completion.The bid came in at $1525.00.

Nancy Thompson gave a report on her finding of the Wyatt Cemetery. Nancy explained the locations of
two cemeteries in Jefferson City and the history behind them. She gave a hard copy report to members
of the board to review her findings.
Discussion occurred between board members regarding former cemeteries located in Jefferson City
such as the Trigg -Sanderson Cemetery, Kauffmann Cemetery, Wyatt Cemetery, and Hedge Grove
Cemetery. Locations were discussed on where these cemeteries used to be.
The discussion on the walking tour tentatively scheduled for the spring was held off until the next
meeting, until more members were available to discuss the project.
New Business:
Nancy Thompson mentioned that Michelle Brooks, Editor of the California Democrat, would be
conducting a presentation at Lincoln University Library on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. The
title is "Finding the Founders: A Search for Soldiers of the 62"d U.S. Colored Infantry. Nancy also
mentioned that the Historic City of Jefferson will be hosting a Christmas reception at 3600 Amazonas
Drive on December 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.
Nancy Thompson also discussed Jewell Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri and Sappington Cemetery in
Arrow Rock, Missouri. These cemeteries are maintained by the State of Missouri Department of Natural
Resources. Nancy brought this subject to the board's attention to see whether this could be a possible
future discussion for the City of Jefferson to transfer the Woodland and Old City Cemetery to the State
of Missouri for ownership. Nancy has contacted representatives with the Missouri Department of
Natural Resources to research the subject.
Other Topics and Issues:
The next Cemetery Resources Board meeting was set for Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
