Minutes Cemetery Resource Board Meeting Thursday, September 21, 2017 Members Present: Nancy Thompson, Chair Tim Theroff, Vice -Chair Jeanne Rutledge Pat Rowe Kerr Beth Bock Rebecca Gordon Members Absent: Dawn Hackmann Staff: David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order. A quorum was present. The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the August 17, 2017 by Rebecca Gordon, Pat Rowe Kerr seconded. Minutes were approved. Old Business: Veterans' gravestones were discussed by board members. Rebecca Gordon reported that contact had been made with Lincoln University President Michael Middleton. Mr. Middleton is interested in helping with the veteran gravestones after Lincoln Homecoming is past. David Grellner reported the Herrick Family Grave Project is still in the bidding process. Nancy Thompson discussed the Exploration, Enrichment, and Research Program with the Jefferson City Public Schools was a success. Ruthi Caplinger, teacher with the Jefferson City Public Schools, had a group of 90 students attend the program to learn about individuals interred in Old City and Woodland Cemetery. Beth Bock reported that the Heritage Girls are booked this fall and will not be able to help with flower planting at this time. Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board pg. 2 September 21, 2017 New Business: David Grellner gave a brief update on the Sara Walker Grave Restoration Project. The grave will be elevated on a slanted concrete pad and the gravestone pieces securely placed on the bed of concrete. A granite stone will be placed at the top of the grave with the name, birth, and death date inscribed on it. Nancy Thompson discussed the Wyatt Cemetery on the western side of Jefferson City. Some gravestones have been located on Missouri Department of Conservation land that may have belonged to the Wyatt Cemetery. Discussion occurred between board members on the possible relocation of these gravestones to a location in Longview Cemetery. Board members proceeded to take a walking tour of Old City and Woodland Cemetery. The Sara Walker grave site was looked at as well as the Herrick Family Grave Site. Other Topics and Issues: The next Cemetery Resource Board meeting was set for Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
