The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday,November 16,2017 at 10:00 a.m.in the Thomas Jefferson Room,lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building,320 E.McCarty Street,Jefferson City,Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the October 19,2017 by Dawn Hackmann,Jeanne Rutledge seconded.Minutes were approved. Old Business: The veterans'gravestones were discussed.Nancy Thompson stated she will look into the application process for the gravestones.Nancy also talked to Jane Beetem with the Historic City of Jefferson regarding the Herrick Family grave lot. The idea was discussed to have the Historic City of Jefferson be used as the contractor to complete work in the City of Jefferson cemeteries to help reduce insurance requirements for contractors.This process would have to be looked into. Nancy talked about creating a partnership with the Historic City of Jefferson to conduct the walking tour this spring.Her thoughts were to have some of their people help portray individuals interred in Woodland and Old City Cemetery.Pat Rowe Kerr asked whether the Chamber of Commerce would be a resource to help out with the tour.The Cemetery Resources Board also discussed organizations sponsoring individual grave markers such as the Sara Walker gravestone project.The Board agreed with Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board pg. 2 November 16, 2017 this idea. David Grellner stated that Capital Monuments is currently working on restoring the Sara Walker gravestone in the cemetery. New Business: Nancy Thompson discussed giving ownership of Woodland and Old City Cemetery to the State of Missouri. This project would be modeled after the cemeteries currently being taken care of by the State of Missouri Department of Natural Resources (Jewell Cemetery and Sappington Cemetery). Nancy has compiled a list of dignitaries that are buried in Woodland and Old City Cemetery and have notable history ties to the State of Missouri. She thinks this may qualify the cemeteries for the State of Missouri to take ownership of them. More research and discussion is being sought for this project at this time. Other Topics and Issues: The next Cemetery Resources Board meeting was set for Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
