HomeMy Public PortalAbout2017-04-18 minutesPark Resources & Planning Committee Meeting April 18, 2017 Commissioners and Co-Chairs Bill Plank and Stu Murphy called the meeting to order at Noon in Room 116 of the LINC, 1299 Lafayette Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101. Committee members present were: Charlie Palmer, Mark Leesman, and, Karl Staub. Commissioners Bill Plank and Stu Murphy were present. Staff present was Todd Spalding, Amy Shaw, Aaron Grefrath, JJ Gates, Andy Carroll, Tina Werner, and Phil Stiles. Park Master Plan Update Director Spalding stated that the consultants are completing the survey questions for a large mailing to the community. He stated that sometime in May, the consultants will conduct community and public input sessions to gain input for the Park Master Plan. Spalding stated that the consultants have begun preliminary drawings for the planned improvements to Community Park. Spalding also commented on the house at Riverside Park. He stated that the only activity that takes place in the house in the Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. He stated that the house is structurally sound and he feels this could become some nice rental space as well as an area within the house to house the administrative staff. Parks/Lincoln University tennis court complex update Director Spalding stated he hopes that May 15 will be start date on construction. He stated the holdup on the project has been comments from USTA to make sure the light levels are correct at the complex. Committee member Karl Staub asked how many courts would be located at the site. Director Spalding responded that four courts will be built. Playground replacement schedule JJ Gates provided an update to the committee on the playground replacement schedule. He stated that in March 2016 the Commission approved the list of playground replacement and the priority schedule. He stated the most recent improvement have been done at McClung Park. Gates reported that the next improvements are scheduled at Community Park along with a number of improvement slated. He then reported the next order of parks would be Binder Park near the tackle shop, East Miller Park, Aurora, Hickory, Adams, and Park Place. What are you hearing in the community? Commissioner Murphy stated he is seeing an enormous amount of trash in McClung Park overnight. He suggested a litter awareness program with the City parks. Commissioner Plank suggested the addition of smaller dog parks throughout the City. Committee member stated he know the greenways are very popular. He suggested more access and connectivity to the greenway trail system. 2 In closing, it was suggested to provide signage for the LINC. As many as still unware of the location, this would be valuable in attracting the community to the LINC. The LINC – participating and programming schedules Aaron Grefrath stated the LINC opened on February 20 and the grand opening was held March 24. Grefrath reported that nearly 12 large events have been hosted at the facility . Grefrath provided an update on memberships and day passes for the facility. He reported that we continue to work on security camera installation in the facility. Grefrath stated that throughout the facility will be display monitors that can have updates about programs and activities. Grefrath reported that we are gearing up on staffing. An exercise instructor has been hired to help define fitness classes in the facility. In closing, Grefrath stated that Lincoln University’s Gala will be April 22 and Lincoln’s graduation will also be at the LINC on May 13. Tour the LINC Grefrath provided a tour of the facility for those wanting to attend. Other Business The next meeting will be held July 18, 2017 at Noon at the North Jeff Cedar City Room, 1210 Sandstone, Jefferson City, MO 65101 Adjournment With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
