News Release
For Immediate Release
New Traffic Signal at Battlefield Parkway and Plaza Street
Now In Operation
Drivers and pedestrians advised to exercise caution at this intersection
Leesburg, VA (August 29, 2013) – The
new traffic signal at Battlefield Parkway
and Plaza Street on the north side of
Leesburg went into full operation this
afternoon. New pedestrian crosswalk
signals are also operating at this
intersection. Drivers and pedestrians
are advised to be aware of the changes
and exercise caution, particularly with
school beginning on Tuesday, September
3, 2013.
Following the opening of Tuscarora High School on North King Street, the construction of the
Exeter Shopping Center and the removal of the Catoctin Circle barricade at North Street, traffic
volumes have increased significantly on Battlefield Parkway between the Route 15 Bypass and
North King Street. As a result, the Town Council added the traffic signal at Battlefield Parkway
and Plaza Street to the Town’s Capital Improvement Program in order to increase both
vehicular and pedestrian safety. In March 2013, the traffic signal installation project was
accelerated to ensure completion prior to the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
