Meeting began at 2pm.
Members Present: Brian Ladley, Denise Rego,Robert and Maureen Steinmann.
Members Absent: Jean Sears
Guest: Ellen Ojala, Brewster's Recreation Director
Minutes for the November 18,2011 meeting were approved and accepted.
Town Report. The copy for the Town Report was approved. Jean Sears,though
absent, had already approved the copy. The Chair will email the final copy to Jillian
Douglass,Assistant Town Manager.
New England ADA updates. The Chair will continue to forward the ADA updates
she receives from adainfoAnewen2landada.org to Denise and Brian.
CART. Brian put together a summary of CART--what it is, how it is done,and how
best to use the system. Brian will email it to Kathy Lambert,Brewster's IT
specialist,and Carla Burke, Chairperson of the Harwich Disability Rights
Committee. He will try to contact Kathy a couple of months before the May 7th
town meeting to make sure CART is set up in the best manner possible.
ACAC Meeting Date/Time Change. The committee has decided to change our
meeting date to the third Wednesday of each month at 1 pm to see if that is more
convenient for everyone.
Sight Loss Center. The Chair received a call from June at the Sight Loss Center in
West Dennis asking if someone from our committee could be a speaker at one of
their support meetings. No one was able to do this. The Chair will call and let her
know.
JAMS Cape Cod Disability Access Directory. Denise and Maureen will update the
information and inform Jean Ann McLaughlin of the changes. Although there will
be no more hardcover editions,the information will still be available on the
Directory's website www.capecoddisabilitv.org.
The committee had asked Ellen Ojala to our meeting to let her know what the
ACAC is doing relative to town recreational areas and to see if she had any
accessibility issues that needed to be addressed.
Several issues were discussed:
• Accessible Beaches. Paines Creek, Linnell Landing and Long Pond are the
focus for Brewster's 2012 accessible beaches.
• Sample materials for accessible pathways--the Mobi-Mat, Super Deck and the
PathMat. The "PathMat"was new to everyone,as the Chair just recently
received it from Nancy White of O'Brien & Sons. PathMat is a rubber/plastic
combination that is cheaper than Mobi-Mat. More discussion to follow.
• Beach Wheelchairs. Brewster owns two beach wheelchairs,one of which is
broken and is too old to be repaired; the other is four years old and is very big
