HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2013-08-30 Craftystitches Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Leesburg Welcomes CraftyStitches with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on September 7, 2013 Leesburg, VA (August 30, 2013) – On Saturday, September 7, 2013, Mayor Kristen Umstattd, along with other town officials will officially welcome CraftyStitches to the Town of Leesburg with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:00pm. CraftyStitches is located at 1604 Village Market Boulevard, Suite 105 in the Village at Leesburg. The Town of Leesburg is pleased to have CraftyStitches open a retail store and a shop after being an online business for over three years. Owned and operated by Loudoun County resident Jennifer Michaels, CraftyStitches is a unique business whose mission is “to grow and create a crafting culture.” Michaels set out to follow her passion for traditional crafts and organic fabrics after being in the corporate world for many years. CraftyStitches has offered services like sewing classes to bridal parties and everything in between for many years, winning several awards for innovative ideas and business model along the way. In 2011, CraftyStitches took 1st place in the Loudoun Small Business Development Center’s annual Business Plan Contest, in the Scalable Business Model category. With the new shop, Michaels is thrilled to showcase her newest initiative, Sew Genius™, which is a series of sewing camps, classes and workshops incorporating S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) technologies into the craft of sewing. Michaels aims to “merge the world of science and tradition” with S.T.E.M. classes which will be offered to adults and children of all ages.
