HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2013-09-19 4th annual Leesburg Airshow Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release 4th Annual Leesburg Airshow Takes to the Skies on Saturday, September 28, 2013 Leesburg, VA (September 19, 2013) – On Saturday, September 28, 2013, the Leesburg Executive Airport will host the fourth annual Leesburg Airshow from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Admission to the Leesburg Airshow is free. Free satellite parking will be available at Tuscarora High School (825 North King Street) or Heritage High School (520 Evergreen Mill Road SE). Complimentary shuttles will run continuously from 10:45am until 4:30pm. There will be no general parking at the airport, handicapped access only. Gates for the airshow will open at 11:00am. The airshow’s static display area, located on the airport’s parking ramp, will feature experimental and antique aircraft. World War II era aircraft on display will include a P-51 Mustang, a T-6 Texan, and a DC-3. Another highlight on the ground is the classic car show sponsored by Star Buick GMC Truck, featuring classic rides, custom hotrods, and the latest makes and models. Other tarmac attractions will include a variety of aviation-related displays, exhibits, and food vendors. At 11:00am, radio-controlled aircraft demonstrations will begin, followed by a formation fly-by at 12:45pm. Beginning at 1:00pm, the skies above Leesburg will come alive with aerobatic and wing walking performances. Featured performers include Scott “Scooter” Yoak, pilot of the P- 51 Mustang “Quick Silver” sponsored by Potomac Flight Training; skydivers from the Flying Circus, sponsored by DB4 Consulting; aviatrix Jana Leigh McWhorter, the featured wing walker; Kevin Russo, pilot of the T-6 Texan sponsored by Toth Financial Advisory Corp; Greg Connell flying high in his Extra 300; and Jack Knutson demonstrating in his Pitts bi-plane. “Our annual airshows present tremendous opportunities for the Town, our citizens, and our business community,” explained Dennis Boykin, chair of the Leesburg Executive Airport Commission. “For the Town, it's a great showcase for airport improvements and provides an (more) TOL PR 2013-09-19 4th annual Leesburg Airshow Page 2 excellent method of promoting good relations with the citizens who live near the field.
